OBA -ITEGA OKPAME FRACAS: AMB. JAMMY EGBE SUES FOR PEACE.

Amb. Jammy Egbe

Amb. Jammy Egbe Calls for end to the ongoing killings and destruction of Property in Yala Land.  A University administrator and son of Yala,  Amb. Jammy Egbe has described the ongoing rancour between the people of Oba and Itega Okpame communities in Yala as an aberration and utter desecration of the  cultural ethos of Yala nation.  Amb.Egbe was reacting to  media reports of the killings and destruction of property in the two communities by people who have been leaving peacefully with one another for decades. He lamented the extent of damages already recorded so far and called on the  warring factions to sheath their swords and return to a round table. According to Amb. Egbe, "Yala people are known for their peaceful co-existence and sense of brotherhood. I have  never for once heard that a community in Yala  raised arm against one another. I am shocked to hear today that people who have been leaving together and sharing so many things in common are fighting and killing themselves in Yala land. This is, to say the least, disgraceful, disheartening, embarrassing and unacceptable to Yala as a people "

He believes that the issue in contention can be settled amicably through dialogue without necessarily resorting to the use of weapons.
Amb. Egbe assured the two communities of his readiness to work with relevant stakeholders in ensuring that peace returns immediately to the two communities while also forestalling a reoccurrence. He said he had contacted most of the prominent men and women including the paramount Ruler of Yala and eight Clan heads on the matter and expressed optimism that the issue would soon be resolved.

He used the opportunity to call on the state government  to swiftly respond by setting up a  team to investigate into the remote and immediate causes of the crisis with the view to finding lasting solution to it. He further called on the Cross River State commissioner of Police, the Paramount ruler of Yala, Chiefs and Opinion leaders of Yala Nation to rise to the occasion by calling the Youths and good people of these two communities to withdraw from the bush and help restore peace to the Area.
