Introducing Dr. Stephen Odey the SUBEB chairman



Dr. Barr. Stephen Odey was born on the 15th December, 1973. He attended St. Christopher’s Primary School Uchu, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State from 1977 – 1981.

He attended Yache Community Secondary School Alifokpa Yala and St. Thomas’s College Ogoja respectively.  He thereafter proceeded to the famous University of Calabar from 1995 – 2010 where he obtained the following degrees;
– Bachelor Degree in Education (B.Ed) Hons.
– Masters Degree in Industrial Sociology (M.Sc)
– Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D in Industrial Sociology)
– Bachelor of Law (LL.B Hons.) 2nd Class upper Division
– Masters in Law LL.M (In view)

He however attended the Nigerian Law School, Bwari and was called to the Nigerian Bar after successfully passing the Bar Part II Examination. 

Dr. Barr. Odey has worked in different organizations including the Nigerian Senate where he served as the personal Assistant and Special Assistant to Senator Professor Ben Ayade, the Current Executive Governor of Cross River State. He has also served as the Acting Managing Director of Cross River State Water Board Ltd. He has been a Lecturer at the Department of Sociology University of Calabar and also a Legal Practitioner.

He has won several awards, some of which include:
– “Best SUBEB Chairman South-South Geo-political zone,” presented by the President’s School Debate Nigeria (PSDN) in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
– “Award of Backbone of Functional Basic Education in Cross River State”, presented by Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Cross River State Wing.
– “ALGON’s Grassroots Community Philanthropist Award,” presented by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
– “Award of Excellence in Public Service” presented by Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators, University of Calabar Branch (ANUPA-UCB).
– “Distinguished Service Award”, presented by The Rotary Club of Calabar-UNICAL.
– “Pan-African Prize for Excellence” award, by the African Student’s Union     Parliament (ASUP)
– “Award of Excellence”, by Young Lawyers Forum (YLF), Calabar branch, in recognition of his positive impact in the basic education sector.
– “Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Public Service/Fellowship”, by Institute of Corporate Administration.
– “Award of honour”, by World Council for Curriculum and Instruction Nigeria Chapter, Calabar Branch.
– “Award of Excellence,” by the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Calabar (UNICAL).
– “Award of Excellence in Public Service” by the Faculty of Education, University of Calabar (UNICAL).
– “Award of Recognition”, by the National Association of Cross River State students (NACRISS), ABU Zaria Chapter.
– “Award of Honour”, by Social Sciences Students Association (SOSSA), University of Calabar Chapter.

He has published widely, with over 20 articles in learned journals across the globe, including America, Sweden, Germany and Asia. He is currently an Editor for the International Journal of Industrial Relations as well as, African Journal of Arbitration and Conflict Resolution, both annual Journals of the Centre for African American Research Studies (CAARS).

He is a member of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and Administration, a Fellow of the Centre for African American Research Studies (CAARS) and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration.Dr. Barr. Stephen Odey is the current Executive Chairman of Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board Calabar.

He is a philanthropist and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.   He is happily married and blessed with children.

Having achieved excellence, significant and observable accomplishments in his role in governance, The Pan African Good Governance Council has named Dr. Barr. Stephen Odey “Good Governance Man of the Month”
and has been appointed “Pan African Good Governance Ambassador”
