‘Group B will be tough’ - Gernot Rohr's surprise reaction to Nigeria's Afcon 2019 draw

With two debutants in their group, the Super Eagles were handed a relatively easy draw but their coach thinks otherwise
Nigeria are in a 'tough' 2019 Africa Cup of Nations group, according to coach Gernot Rohr.

Despite being pitted alongside debutants Madagascar and Burundi, and Guinea in Group B , the German tactician insists his team have a lot on their hands.
“Group B will be tough. Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi are decent sides so we have to prepare well,” Rohr said.
Rohr, present at the Afcon draw held at the famous Giza Pyramids in Egypt capital, Cairo on Friday evening, revealed the Super Eagles plan to tackle two west African sides in
Ghana and Senegal in the build-up to the tournament which starts June 21.

“We plan to play build-up games vs Ghana (in Nigeria), and maybe Senegal.”

Nigeria missed the last two editions of the continent’s flagship tournament after emerging winners in 2013. They, however, qualified for 2019’s edition in grand style, grabbing first spot in Afcon qualifying Group E.

The Super Eagles, with base in Alexandria during the group phase, will start their Afcon 2019 campaign with a tie against Burundi on June 22 before taking on Guinea [June 26] and Madagascar [June 30].
