WHY OBUBRA LGA SHOULD PRODUCE THE NEXT SPEAKER OF THE CROSS RIVER STATE 9TH ASSEMBLY:
BY CONCERN FRIENDS OF OBUBRA.
It is on record that since the inception of the current Democratic dispensation fromm 1999,which is about 20 years running,the Obubra people have always shown & demonstrated their goodwill in terms of their contributions by voting massively for PDP in all the elections,Its indeed saddening that in spite of this huge support,Obubra have not been treated fairly in terms of sharing key & sensitive positions in government.
Obubra is one of the LGs in the Central Senatorial District with five other Local Government Areas namely:Abi,Yakurr,Ikom,Etung & Boki LGAs.
It's instructive to note that Central Senatorial District is further categorized into two smaller unites of:old Obubra comprising of Abi,Yakurr & Obubra LGAs,& old Ikom comprising of: Ikom,Etung & Boki LGAs respectively.
Over the years all the other five LGAs other than Obubra from old Obubra block have held the positions of Governors,Senators,Members of the House of Representatives,Secretaries to the state government & Speakers of CRSHA.In addition,the other LGAs have also hugely benefited from sensitive appointments as commissioners,Special Advisers & Chairmen of Boards & Commissions in the state,leaving Obubra with only one commissioner in the current dispensation.
Under the current dispensation,Abi LGA has two commissioners & the current Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly. Rt Hon.John Gaul Lebo & many board & commissions chairmen.
Yakurr in the past had produced a speaker in the person of Rt Hon.Bassey Ewa at the same time Chief Obeten Okorn was a Reps Member within the same dispensation,currently, the same Yakurr has two commissioners,a seating member of the House of Reps, sensitive Boards & commissions chairmen.
Also,
Etung LGA had produced a Member of the House of Reps for the past 12years,a serving senator & currently a senator elect including two serving commissioners, sensitive boards & commissions chairmen.
Ikom had also produced a Senator for the past 12 years in the person of Senator Victor Ndoma Egba,sensitive boards & commission Chairmen & two serving commissioners.
Boki LGA had also produced a Senator M. T.Mbu Jnr (1999-2003)Member of the House of Reps for 12 years & under that same dispensation, two state party chairmen (Rev Ikobi & Chief Sunny Abang),two serving Commissioners & sensitive Boards Chairmen including Secretary to the state government (SSG).
From the analysis presented above,it has clearly shown that it is only Obubra with two state constituencies with voting strength of One Hundred And Three Thousand(103,000)votes that have not been properly favored in the distribution & power rotation of sensitive positions under this democratic dispensation since 1999.
Therefore,it's absolutely necessary & justifiable for Obubra people to appeal & request that the position of Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly be zoned to Obubra LGA.
In other to foster a harmonious relationship between Obubra & other sisters LGAs in the Central Senatorial District as well as other LGAs in the state,the aspiration of Obubra people to produce the next Speaker of the 9th Assembly be properly encouraged looked into.
We also use this medium to humbly call on our great party the PDP to add a voice to this clarion call by equally zoning the position of Speaker to Obubra to enable her produce the speaker of the 9th Assembly in the forth coming dispensation.
