It begs the question as to where the money in those states went to. If the South-South and South-East had obligated their allocations prudently since 1999, there would be no need for their citizens deserting their states to other hostile states. I have personally seen the activities in Cross River State in the last four years, and wished that the past leaders in this part of the country thought as big, perhaps, these states would now be reaping more in terms of internally generated revenue. These states would now been less dependent on the center. That is how a country can be built. Given the trend of the events in the country, I don’t see hope for Nigeria. The greedy and selfish leaders in the past 20 years in the south-east, south-south worsened the problems. There is therefore a call for action for the present leaders to think more strategically. It takes one person to lead and I hope that you can take the mantle to organize your colleagues in the area to get them to think more as a region than individual states, to coordinate development for the region so that our sons and daughters scattered all over the country and diaspora would bring their wealth home. This will be the beginning of establishment of a system and institutions that will make the region the envy of other groups. A system and institutions that will reflect the collective will of the people for whom these leaders serve. If Cross River can do more with $8M presently, you can imagine what will happen if all the states in the region agree to pull resources together for development of infrastructure.
