Office of the SSA to Governor Ayade on Mobilization and Enlightenment
March 20, 2019
Our attention has been drawn to the vicious attack coming from the APC, Cross River State, purportedly challenging and rejecting the outcome of the 2019 General Elections in Cross River State, following the press conference held on Monday – March 19, 2019 to discuss the outcome of the just concluded elections.
We want to categorically state that all elections conducted by the electoral umpire, INEC in Cross River State – including Presidential, NASS, Governorship and State Assembly, were all peaceful, free, fair and transparent.
Governor Ben Ayade is a peace loving Governor and so allowed the elections to be conducted in a level playing ground. The allegation that he deployed the state machinery to invoke fear and intimidate people in the course of the election only exists as a pigment of imagination.
Further, the question is that: is it APC that is the existing opposition party that contested for positions in Cross River State? If elections were marred by the acclaimed allegations by the APC, why have 39 political parties in the state congratulated the digital Governor? The claim that the election was characterized by thumb printing and massive rigging is a fabricated lie.
APC, Cross River State is infamous in fabricating lies – it can be recalled how they fabricated a video, alleging that there was massive thumb printing during the February 23 Presidential/NASS election. They have a question to answer: where did they get those materials from? From the onset, we have been confident of victory because we know the strong foundation we have laid for ourselves.
APC, even before the elections, had wanted the elections in Cross River State to be inconclusive as they believe they have the Federal might to win a re-run. However, we know that President Buhari would not stoop so low to dent his image in Cross River State, where the entire world is aware that no party can win the PDP.
It has to be emphasized, therefore, that the APC, Cross River State should learn to put their house in order before election, rather than indulging in flagrant shift of blames. The business of politics is not won with unfounded lies, devious slander and unsubstantiated libel.
