As means to facilitate cross-boarder trade by removing barriers to trade and bureaucratic bottlenecks imposed by the Nigerian Custom regulations, the Federal Government has seen the need to reopen the Calabar Free Trade Zone.
We need to give kudos to His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade for putting pressure on the Presidency in order to achieve this lofty feat that has added feathers to his cap. This is a boost to Governor Ayade's economic blueprint of revolutionizing Cross River State economy.
President Buhari has ordered the Minister of Transportation Chief Rotimi Amaechi to put all modalities in place to ensure that the Calabar Free Trade Zone is functional with immediate effect.
The free trade Zone which serves as manufacturing hub, will provides a platform for the import of components and raw materials as well as export of manufactured goods to different countries.
The Calabar Free Trade Zone will prove to be of utmost importance to the economy of Cross River State. It will not only help businessmen to utilize available business opportunities in the best possible ways, but will also provide employment opportunities, attract FDI's, generate foreign exchange which will help increase the nation's foreign exchange earnings.
Other important benefits are establishment of new factories by manufacturing firms, transfer of skills and huge revenues to government through corporate and personal income tax.
With this development, companies in Cross River State will experience increase in global competitiveness and reduce brain drain.
We should be grateful to our amiable, innovative, supersonic and proactive Governor who has, in his wisdom influenced this feats. We are also grateful to President Buhari for his love for Cross River and Nigeria
