IGEDE PEOPLE OUTLINE CHALLENGES AND APPEAL FOR KEY POLITICAL APPOINTMENT

By Kadiri Abraham

March 20, 2019

The 2019 General Elections are over and the next event that will play out is that political players have started seeking and lobbying for key political appointments and other forms of benefits from the political gladiators for whom they have worked during the electioneering process.

One fundamental political norm we, the Igede people are trying to grapple with is the intrigue of how and through whom we can push our common interest to the corridors of powers where our collective and individual needs can be met. We have been swimming in the dungeon of political backwardness, marginalization and worse of all, pettiness, in spite of the fact that we have not lost our votes to the wrong party since the advent of PDP in Nigeria.

For instance, the nine(9) polling units in Igede ward have been delivering over 90% of the total votes to PDP in each of the elections.

We are yet to get any key appointment from the government and enjoy the luxury of modern living; our young people are yet to find any Igede person with the requisite connection to fall back on, when they need help; our roads are in shamble; we still compete with lower animals for drinking water; our parents, at old age, still trek several miles to sell their scanty proceeds resulting from the peasant farming done by the rule of the thumb; our teaming young people who cannot find succor from their original homes are worse hit by the menace of western exodus syndrome in search of greener pastures and consequently we are trapped by the vicious circle of poverty which transcends generations.

We have exercised our franchise; we have made the right choice by contributing our mandate to re-electing the incumbent Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, considering his laudable feats and for the fact that he is our brother from the lineage of the great Agba; we have kept our words of promises to Dr. Mrs Rose Oko, MP Jarigbe and Hon. Cythia Nkasi; We have made reasonable sacrifice that we do not even mind the hatred that resulted from it; we have done our part.

Therefore, Igede people need the helping hands of government – we beckon on Governor Ben Ayade, Dr. Mrs Rose Oko, MP Jarigbe Agom, Hon. Nkasi Cynthia to remember us.

We have a good number of graduates and undergraduates in all fields of endeavour. We need our teaming school leavers, young girls, many of whom are serving in different places as house helps in the Diaspora to be motivated to come back home; they need good and ample opportunities for them to key into.

Our earnest appeal is that you give us key appointments and help avail our people the opportunities to demonstrate their natural endowment and prowess.
