CROSS RIVER STATE OF OUR DREAM, WHO TAKES OVER FROM OUR DIGITAL GOV. PROF. BEN AYADE. (SERIES 2)

POTENTIAL CONTENDERS SERIES PART II

Remember we had made it very clear that profiling the potential contenders is in no particular order, has nothing to do with political party and the fact that it is the turn of Southern Cross River cannot be overemphasized.

               SENATOR GERSHOM BASSEY

Do you still remember the "THREE WISE MEN"? or have you ever read or heard about the story of the "three wise men" in Cross River State" ? In the heat of the Millitary plans to hand over power to civil rule in 1998, three young Cross Riverians otherwise known as the three wise men met in Lagos, and their plans was, we shall rule Cross River in turns and we shall make her the envy of other states.

This zeal and energy in them prompted a constructive layout of plans and procedures to achieve their desire. These three wise men were and are His Excelllency, Donald Duke; His Excellency, Lyel Imoke and Senator Gershom Bassey. In their plans, code 8:8:8 was not taken into consideration because to them,  it was all about the development of Cross River State.

The execution of their plans started with Donald Duke becoming governor in 1999, while Lyel Imoke went federal to become a minister, Gershom Bassey patiently waited at the State level. After the reign of Donald Duke for 8 years, Senator Lyel Imoke effortlessly took over from Donald Duke which was still the implementation of the plans of the "three wise men" while Gershom Bassey was at a point, appointed Chairman of Cross River Water Corporation, a period that saw non-stop clean water pumping around Calabar and other cities.

READ CROSS RIVER STATE OF OUR DREAM, SERIES 1

After Senator Lyel Imoke had ruled for 8 years, it was naturally believed that Gershom Bassey will take over to complete the arrangement, but it was not to be so as there were cries that power should shift to northern Cross River State. Power shift to northern Cross River State was morally right and for the sake of equity and justice, thus, it triggered the unwritten gentleman code 8:8:8 that has kept Cross River State politically peaceful and observation of respect for the different components of the State.  While power shifted to northern Cross River State where the current governor Prof. Ben Ayade took over, Gershom Bassey was elected to represent Southern Cross River State as a senator, a position his constituents will tell you he has performed creditably well and has earned him a return back to the Senate.

There is one unique character in Senator Gershom Bassey and that is, His ability to patiently wait for what he think is his. Though patient dogs no more see bones to eat, His own might be different as he has never missed whatever is his while waiting. Senator Gershom Bassey while agreeing to power shift to northern Cross River State after Lyel Imoke did not rock the boat as most politicians who will not take chances would do in some other states. He is one person that is calm, cool headed and calculative.

He is eminently qualified to rule Cross River State in 2023 if Christ tarries.
