The Akwa Ibom legislature under in the 6th Assembly has passed the Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund Bill (AKDF Bill) into law.
This was took place during the first plenary session on Wednesday, as the legislators resumed legislative duties shortly after the 2019 general elections to consider report from the Appropriation and Finance Committee on the 2019 Budget proposed by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
*AKYDF Bill is a sustainable policy framework for youth development in Akwa Ibom State. It aims at improving youth economic development, create jobs, attract investors/donor supports, stimulate growth and further increase State Government’s revenue base.*
The Bill, an only bill of its kind, not only in Akwa Ibom, but Nigeria, is a sustainable youth policy framework and when implemented.
The Speaker, Rt. Onofiok Luke commended the Youth Alive Foundation and other youth organizations for proposing the bill while urging Akwa Ibom people to take similar advantage of the legislature to propose laws that can positively affect the generality of Akwa Ibom people.
In October 2015, over 53 NGO’s and civil society organizations under the auspices of the Youth Advocacy Cluster – YAC came together to advocate for the AKYDFBill. It was sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Bassey, member representing Ini State Constituency.
