The saying that ‘your vote is your power’ is gaining grounds on the build up to the 2019 general election.
Politicians and volunteers have continued to urge eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Card,it was in that frame that the Senior special Assistant on Mobilization and enlightenment to the cross river state Government Mrs.Angela Ogeyi Odey Organised an enlightenment campaign in Okpoma the Yala Local Government headquarters.
During the enlightenment campaign , which was aimed at encouraging the voters to obtain their PVC, thousands of people converged for a walk round Okpoma town and its environs, sharing flyers and engaging on one-on-one discussions with eligible voters on the importance of getting the PVC.
The walk, which took off at Christ the king college through Okuku road, with a brief stop at the local council premises.
In her remarks on the occasion, Angela said the walk was in continued efforts to ensure the success of 2019 election and for voters to vote for candidates that will take them to a greater height, which depends on the PVC.
She added: “Therefore we can not ignore the need to posses the PVC which is our political and economic power.
I cannot claim to be oblivious of the problems being encountered in the process of PVC collection, I want to encourage you to fight all the odds and disallow the challenges from disenfranchising you.”
“This rally and the efforts put into it will not worth the wile if eligible voters cannot collect their cards.
Your PVC, the time to do that is now, voting is not only a constitutional demand but also a natural imperative.
Our population, particularly in Yala is a huge potential and you know what that means if 90 Percent of eligible voters vote for their party/candidates and the consequent development arising there from,” she added.
The PDP stalwart, advised the youths to take the crusade as theirs, stressing that they are the leaders of not only the future, but now.
Angela advised voters to shun money politics, which she said has thwarted the growth of our nation, adding, “Do not sell your future on the platter of a well-oiled pottage.
This is the time to take your destiny in your hands, nobody will do it for you.
We all have the choice to take any decision as deemed appropriate, but we must be prepared to accept the consequences of our choice.”
She also tasked them to eschew violence in the coming electioneering and discourage campaign of calumny and fabrications against political contenders.
“We must as a people strive to herald a new political culture devoid of desperation and anarchy,” she declared.
