THE SCORCHING SUN – MP JARIGBE AGOM

A poem written for MP Jarigbe Agom on the occasion of his birthday celebration

From:
Office of the SSA to the Governor, Mobilization and Enlightenment

December 9, 2018

The crack of the dawn is discernible;
And the rising sun is clement on all skin-
Like the arrival of a just acquitted captive
From the womb, devoid of mortal mischief.

The Sun’s upshot is balmy on the surface;
Caressing the fur in tender warmth,
And giving-off what’s like a sedative of split bones
As the warmers infer from nature’s rule

It sniffles, nips it in the bud, accepts the salute
Out of the cage in which it’s engulfed;
Its abode is now relieved of toil and turmoil-
Now that the connecting cord is slashed.

Yet, it crawls on the sky to explore its brilliance
Beholding the holdings of its mother, planet earth;
While it stocks all doubts in its miniature mind
Until it’ll attain the prime of life to clear the doubts

Now its pair of limbs is ready for motion,
It scampers for balance on the sky surface;
Stretching its firm fists around for anchor
Like the chameleon wary of avalanche.

Again, it ascends the sky swiftly to reach the zenith -
No longer within its mother’s eye of care
The sun disentangles to explore its potent power
And to learn to soar higher up the sky

Still ascending, it now shines brighter,
Exuding intense energy up to the Green Chamber;
As the day is dawn for the next race
To the seat of power, let’s beam our rays in support
