Ayade preaches hope on New Year

Cross River State governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has urged Cross Riverians to be hopeful of a better 2019 as the foundation his administration has laid in the last three years is progressively being crystalized through the rapid industrialization of the state.

In his New Year message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, Governor Ayade said the herald of a New Year, which comes with new vistas, new aspirations and a revitalized hope, offers Cross Riverians the chance to look forward to a better Cross River in 2019.

According to Ayade: “Seeing out a year gone by and ushering in a new one is always a moving experience. If we take stock of the year gone by, we have every reason to be happy as our expectations are being fulfilled and our efforts at building a virile, stable and sustainable Cross River is crystalizing.”
While soliciting a hand of fellowship to actualize the dreams envisioned by his administration, the governor said: “Today, I thank you for standing by us so far and for the great support we have received from you.

I also urge you to stretch your hands along with me that together, we may force a dawn of greatness on Cross River State.”

Ayade who highlighted the giants steps he has taken in the last three years to reposition the state and decouple it from the federal allocation, noted that “massive industrialization in the area of the establishment of the Calabar Garment Factory, the Rice seedlings and multiplication centre, the cocoa processing plant in Ikom, the fully automated and digitalized rice mill in ogoja, the piles and pylons factory in Akamkpa, are some of the strides we have made towards making the state self-reliant.”

Others according to the governor, include the tooth pick factory in Ekori, in Yakurr Local Government Area, the Banana plantation in Odukpani, the Noodle and chicken processing factories, organic fertilizer plant all in Calabar, the British/Canadian international school in Obudu.

Assuring that 2019 signals the crystallization of the momentum begun three years ago, Ayade, said: “As we begin a new voyage to a New Year, it offers us another unique opportunity to consolidate on our well scripted chapter with exhilarating pages that are worth reading by the end of the year.”

My New Year Message To Nigerians ~ Atiku Abubakar

Abuja, Nigeria, 31 December, 2018:

My dear fellow citizens,

As 2018 comes to an end and 2019 beckons, on behalf of my family and I, let me wish you and your family a very happy New Year in advance.

In 2018, we became the world headquarters for extreme poverty, however, I am convinced that in 2019, if we chart a new course, we can become the world headquarters for hope and extreme devotion to the cause of lifting our people out of poverty.

2019 is as yet a blank page. As a nation, we must not settle for whatever it brings. Rather, we must take collective action, through our choices, in making it a year where we revive national hope, with visionary leadership that sees our economy and institutions working again as they did in our golden era.

We can chart a new course and open a new chapter that sees every Nigerian living in peace and prosperity with their neighbour. It can be the year when our youths finally get a job instead of being unfairly tagged as lazy. With purposeful leadership, it can also be the year when we put an end to terrorism and usher in a golden age of peace.

But it will not just happen by itself. We have to make changes from the top all the way to the bottom. We already have the vision, the vision of a nation that is a beacon of hope for the Black Race and the world at large, what we lack and what 2019 can provide, is the leadership that has the capacity to translate that vision into reality.

In 2019, Nigerians need a leadership that is 100% for 100% of Nigerians, 100% of the time. We have seen where division and sectionalism has led us to. Now let us try unity and patriotism.

Don’t lose heart and hope. Nigeria is no stranger to overcoming difficulties. In fact, we have an uncanny ability to perform our best when the worst is upon us. I urge my fellow countrymen and women to remember how we became the first nation in the world to defeat and overcome the Wild Ebola Virus, when even First World nations were struggling with the scourge.

That resilience is domiciled in our national psyche and together we shall win forever. We shall win over forces of disunity. We shall win over forces of poverty and backwardness.

But more importantly, in 2019, I want Nigerians to know that it is possible to have a leadership that is compassionate and that this does not equate to weakness. A leadership that is bold but not domineering. A leadership that is intelligent, but not arrogant.

Indeed, that is the only type of leadership that can navigate the difficulties currently facing our dear nation and lead us to Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress, which are our national motto and which are the hope of all Nigerians.

Once again, I wish you all a Happy New Year and may 2019 be the year of Nigeria.

Atiku office Press Release. It Is Buhari Who Has a History of Bringing in Looted Funds.

Atiku office Press Release..

It Is Buhari Who Has a History of Bringing in Looted Funds.

Abuja, Nigeria, 30 December, 2018: Our attention has been
drawn to a statement by President Muhammadu Buhari
accusing Atiku Abubakar of planning to smuggle in looted
funds into the country just before the February 2019
elections.

This new accusation, like their previous allegations, is
another infantile outburst that tells more about the accuser
than the accused. Atiku Abubakar has no looted funds
abroad or in Nigeria.

For the avoidance of doubt, history shows that rather than
smuggle in looted cash, Waziri Atiku Abubakar has a record
of preventing looted funds from being smuggled into
Nigeria.

In 1984, it was Atiku Abubakar, as head of the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport Command of the Nigerian
Customs and Excise Department, that stopped the ADC of
the then Military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, from
smuggling in 53 suitcases of looted money into the country.

Young Nigerians and millennials who may not be aware of
this incident, will do well to Google it. Only the guilty are
afraid. It is President Muhammadu Buhari who has a history
of smuggling in looted funds and not Waziri Atiku Abubakar.

In fact, Nasir El-Rufai, a favourite of the President and a
chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, said as follows
on October 4, 2010:

“In 1984, Buhari allowed 53 suitcases belonging to his
ADC’s father to enter Nigeria unchecked at a time the
country was exchanging old currency for new.”

Atiku Abubakar’s plane was searched, his accounts have
been perused and his businesses have been thoroughly
investigated with a fine tooth and nothing remotely corrupt
or illegal has been found.

In desperation, the Buhari administration released this
statement to cover their shame on a day that the US based
International Strategic Studies Association reported that it
is the unprecedented corruption around President Buhari
that has led to the recent setbacks in the war on terrorism
in the Northeast and the heavy loss of lives amongst the
military rank and file. May God save Nigeria from a
government that values money over lives.

We therefore urge Nigerians to note that it is Muhammadu
Buhari who has a history and a record of smuggling in
looted funds and it is Waziri Atiku Abubakar who has a
history of preventing such from happening.

And while they are at it, we urge them to tell Nigerians
those behind Etisalat and Keystone Bank and how they
suddenly possessed such wealth overnight.

Finally, Nigerians should note that the Buhari
administration cannot defend their record on jobs and
poverty - the things of most concern to voters - thus, their
only resort is slander.

Paul Ibe
Media Adviser to HE Atiku Abubakar

PRESS RELEASE BY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION

Sunday, December 30, 2018

PRESS RELEASE BY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION:

WHEN THE THIEF IS SHOUTING “THIEF”:
THE CASE OF ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR

A few days ago, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, called out President Muhammadu Buhari over certain allegations of “corrupt practices” which the President allegedly condones in his government. Whilst we have repeatedly addressed each and every of the instances cited by him to show the transparent nature of the government, it is shocking that the Presidential candidate of the main opposition has refused to issue a personal statement up till this minute clarifying in details his record of crass corruption and abuse of office. He is clearly taking Nigerians for a ride and hopes to distort the ethical revolution in public office that Nigerians clearly desire to his own philosophy of abusing public office to promote private interests. By his subliminal messages, he wants Nigerians to accept that becoming wealthy by abusing public office is not a bad thing after all.

With the avalanche of fake and unsubstantiated news released in the last few days, it is now clear that PDP’s strategy in the run up to the elections is to spread fake news and make wild allegations without any proof against the President and the Vice President. This is clearly to divert attention from the record of crass corruption and abuse of office of their own candidate. Nigerians cannot and should not be insulted by the PDP after 16 years of looting of the nation, by now putting forward a man whose record of corruption they very much acknowledge, but would rather we all overlook it.

Some of the indisputable facts regarding Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are as follows:

1. The U.S Congress in a report titled, KEEPING FOREIGN CORRUPTION OUT OF THE UNITED STATES: FOUR CASE HISTORIES, featured Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as one of the four notorious cases of money laundering in the world!

2. The Congress report said “Jennifer Douglas Abubakar, a U.S. citizen, is the fourth wife of Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and a former candidate for the Presidency of Nigeria...... from 2000 to 2008, Ms. Douglas helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States, including at least $1.7 million in bribe payments from Siemens AG, a German corporation, and over $38 million from little known offshore corporations, primarily LetsGo Ltd. Inc., Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., and Sima Holding Ltd”.

3. Atiku’s co-conspirators, Williams Jefferson and Siemens in the bribery deal were convicted and Jefferson went to jail. By running for President of Nigeria, Atiku intends to get some immunity from prosecution. Already he is hoping to obtain a visa to visit the US, as a guest of the State department, a concession that the US will grant to a Presidential candidate of Africa’s biggest Nation.

4. Both the BBC and Voice of America reported that “In a probe ordered by Mr. Obasanjo, (then Nigerian President) the vice-president was accused of diverting $125m from a public development trust fund into his personal businesses.”; Please see 1016 BBC, Profile: Atiku Abubakar, January 25, 2007, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/ 6292141.stm (Voice of America, “Nigerian Vice President Charged with Corruption,” October 10, 2006, http:// www1.voanews.com/english/news/a-).

5. A Senate subcommittee investigating the PTDF indicted Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, having found that he abused his office by aiding and abetting the diversion of public funds in the sum of $145 million” as loans to his friends. This report was a subject of a full-blown investigation by the EFCC which actually recommended his prosecution in a court of law. That report is still pending and alive till today.

How do we as a Nation end up with anyone with this sordid record locally and internationally? We have heard the lame defence that the U.S Justice Department said it has no pending case against Atiku Abubakar. That is only a defence for the ignorant ones. In the United States, there are indictments the Justice Department can confirm to the world. But there is another category of indictments known as SEALED INDICTMENTS that the Justice Department cannot confirm to anyone. These indictments are sealed under the orders of a Judge. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has a sealed indictment waiting for him in the U.S. The day he visits the U.S, not as a candidate in an election, he will face charges.
There is no question that the reasons for Atiku’s frequent contests for the Presidency are to steal the resources of Nigeria for self-enrichment and to prevent prosecution for his crimes of laundering and receiving bribes. No amount of fake news or ridiculous false allegations against the President or Vice President that can wash away the well-documented history of theft.
We also challenge the PDP to publish a single line in the sub-committee recommendation of the House of Reps on the NEMA Emergency purchases where the report accused the Vice President of embezzlement of funds. They either do this within 24 hours or keep quiet forever. It is even noteworthy that the House of Representatives have not adopted any such recommendation to make it a report of the House.
We also challenge them to show any proof whatsoever of their allegations regarding the TraderMoni.
After three days of publicly announcing that they have hard proof that the President’s relations bought shares in Etisalat and Keystone Bank, the PDP has not produced a single piece of paper, a document of any sort to buttress the grave allegations it made. This is how shameless and callous the Atiku team has become, all in a desperate bid to get their hands on the public purse.
Lastly, we challenge Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the umpteen time to produce his tax receipts for 2015, 2016 and 2017. It is shocking that a man who has not been paying his Personal Income Taxes now says he wants to “get Nigerians working again” - whatever that means. He is only deceiving himself and not the intelligent Nigerians that we know.
Thank you.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF BEAUTY PAGEANTS TO CROSS RIVER'S ECONOMY

Eba Alobo Ish

While I congratulate the 2018 winner of the Miss Africa Calabar Dorcas Kasinde, and applaud the state government for successfully playing host to over thirty girls from different African countries, one question that has refused to stop popping up in my mind is 'What is the economic value of these numerous pageants to the economy of Cross River State?
The state in recent time has become a hub for pageantry events ranging from the famous Miss Africa to Mr/Mrs NorthFest, Mr/Mrs Leboku among others. With time, if this trend should continue then in the near future we should equally have the Mr/Mr CenFest as well as SouFest to strike a balance among the three senatorial districts.
The question begging for answers include but not limited to: What value do the winners of these contests add to the state's economy, what impact do they create on our young girls, what has been heard of the winner of last editions of these events.
I don't believe that beauty contests truly have an impact on a consumer-based economy like ours.  Beauty pageants or other contests, while occasionally newsworthy, are nowhere close to as in the spotlight as celebrities. Often times, the winner of even a huge beauty pageant like Miss Africa is out of the limelight within days. They don't do nearly the advertising work as big name celebrities, they don't discuss who they are wearing or what brand their makeup is. I don't believe that beauty contests are good or bad for the economy as I don't believe they correlate.
To a large extent I think that beauty contests are ruining our society. When most of our young girls watch those models walk the runway in a dress with half of their back showing, they think, "I wish I was her, I would be so beautiful," So they go and get plastic surgeries( for those who can afford) and pluck their eyebrows off. People are judging others in how well they look in a skin tight dress or how well they can pin their hair up. Some people who watch Miss Africa and other pageants like that become depressed because they don't think that they are pretty. Well I think that everybody is pretty on the inside and we don't need contests to prove it. Beauty as it is said is in the eye of the beholder and what is aesthetically beautify to one may not be appreciated by another.
The funds channeled to these events can be properly utilised especially in the Agricultural and Educational sub-sector. We should rather have contests like 'Most Vibrant Agriculturist" in Africa. It is high time we invest the resources of the state in more productive ventures rather than squander it on unproductive beauty pageants that contribute nothing to our Gross Domestic Product ( GDP) as a state.

A passionate letter to late Shehu shagari in the land of the dead.

Dear SHEHU SHAGARI,

As you officially joint the league of ancestors; Please if you see Tafawa Balewa, tell him that his sons are carrying guns against Nigerian state.

Tell Yar'Adua that the amnesty he granted is now business oriented for the privilege few; causing wahala.

Please if u see Ojukwu, tell him that his brothers and sisters are expecting another pogrom.

Tell Awolowo that Nigeria is now more divided and preparing for another war.

Tell Nnamdi Azikiwe that those things that made him cross the ocean 100 times seeking for peace are coming again.

Obviously you will not see Abacha, but if u see anyone that see's
him, pls tell him that Almustapha his main man is out of kirikiri prison; tell him that even Obasenjo came out of prison and became President.

Tell MKO Abiola that another June
12 is looming and his kinsmen no longer speak with one voice.

Tell Gani Fawehemi Senior Advocate of the Masses,  that corruption is now official; tell him that even prosecution and conviction of Politicians who are looting the country dry is selective.

Please don't fail to tell CHINUE ACHEBE not to be disappointed in Nigeria, it's just that since he left to joint the league of ancestors, THINGS FALL APART, Nigeria is NO LONGER AT EASE and the ARROW OF GOD is now pointing seriously at Nigeria because of THE TROUBLE IN NIGERIA, even though we've had MAN OF THE PEOPLE like you, but when we cast our minds back to the good old days, indeed we remember THERE WAS A COUNTRY...

2019: PDP Youths to APC,You are a disgrace to Nigerians...

The Youths of opposition Peoples Democratic Party has called on the All Progressive Congress to bury  their heads in shame for telling more lies during the rally in Uyo Akwa Ibom State. The National Coordinator PDP Youth Alliance Dr. Charles Omini said on a day that 700 soldiers were missing in Baga and Boko Haram taking over the territories in Borno State APC led federal government is boasting it has conquered Boko Haram in the north east part of the country. He said the APC led administration  didn't mean well for Nigerians, describing it as party that survives only on lies and cheap propaganda. He accused the APC that its only target is massive looting of the countries
treasury and to bring more hunger and pains to Nigerians. He challenged the APC to explain to Nigerians were they fought corruption and fixed the economy they claimed when millions of Nigerians are out of jobs.He said the empty stadium Uyo Akwa Ibom State was  a clear indication of the rejection of the APC by Nigerians who cannot be fooled again with lies.He called on the  APC to defend all the allegations  level against President Buhari that Nigerians need explanations.

2019 - CONSOLIDATING ON OUR GAINS: A CASE OF HON JARIGBE

2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS - CONSOLIDATING ON OUR GAINS: A CASE STUDY OF HON JARIGBE AGOM

Ogar Wodah
Abuja Nigeria.

28th December, 2018.

As we prepare to elect and return all our representatives and party flag bearers back to power to consolidate on their laudable achievements, its pertinent to have full knowledge of their antecedents in Nation building.

On this edition, we shall take a critical look at the roles Hon Jarigbe Agom has played in the successive Government visa Vis before he was elected to represent the good people of Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency of Cross River State at the Lower Chambers of the National Assembly.

Hon Jarigbe Agom who has paid his dues over the years in different capacities before his election into the National Assembly was a self made personality to be reckoned with, hence the repeated calls from different quarters to support his candidacy for Ogoja/Yala to consolidate our gains. In 2008, when his contemporaries in Politics were looking for offices that had budgetary allocations, Hon Jarigbe Agom made himself available to serve as Ex-Officio Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also, in 2010/11, he was the Cross River State Coordinator For Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organization whose contribution in no small measure led to the successful campaign and consequent victory in the presidential election. Before the build up to the 2015 general elections, he was one of the strong voices who clamoured that power should returned to the Northern Parts of Cross River State.

The Honourable's various contributions to both the state and federal governments, earned him the position of the "Chairman, Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P)" Cross River State Chapter under the administration of President Good luck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR. He's recepient of various awards and honours, which include the prestigious "Man Of Substance Award From SAFARI GROUP and Humanitarian Award From THE RESIDENT DOCTORS of Nigeria".

Lastly, in the words of the JAGABAN OF OGOJA/YALA, Jarigbe Agom in 2014; "Its not a crash program. There must be a build-up. Our politics isn't without history. My dear people of Ogoja and Yala, the facts speak for itself. We have a date with history. Let's get it right, we can't afford to bungle it. The stakes are high. The right decision is going to have a positive multiplier effect on even our children yet unborn, but a wrong decision is going to affect even our own very existence to do the right thing, taking all the parameters of effective representation into consideration", we present him again for re-election to sustain his laudable achievements.

Victory lies with the truth, his projects/interventions are visible. We go where our vision is, that's why we are calling on the good people of Ogoja/Yala to support Hon Jarigbe Agom to consolidate on our gains.

Britain bans puppy and kitten sales by pet shops

The government said it will roll out the legislation next year after holding public consultations that showed 95 percent support for the ban.
“This will mean that anyone looking to buy or adopt a puppy or kitten under six months must either deal directly with the breeder or with an animal re-homing centre,” the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said on Sunday as part of its Christmas animal welfare push. The measure is commonly called Lucy’s Law in honour of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that was rescued from a puppy farm in Wales in 2013.
Lucy, who died in 2016, spent most of her life in a cage and was unable to breed because of her lack of movement.
Activist Lisa Garner took her home and launched a social media awareness campaign that changed the way Britons get their pets.
The government said the new law would help “end the terrible welfare conditions found in puppy farming and solve a range of existing animal welfare issues”.
‘Right start in life’
The government believes the ban will keep “high volume, low welfare breeders” — both licensed and unlicensed — from flooding pet shops with puppies and kittens raised in unethical conditions.
Defra released no figures estimating how many sales the new legislation would affect.
But London’s Battersea Dogs Home chief Claire Horton said the rules will “make sure the nation’s much-loved pets get the right start in life”.
Battersea has been the focus of several popular TV series about pet rescues and care that reflected Britons’ general affection for cats and dogs.
Britain’s People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) veterinary charity said 49 percent of UK adults owned at least one pet in 2018.
PDSA’s estimated cat population of 11.1 million edged out the 8.9 million dogs and one million rabbits — whose numbers have nearly halved since 2011.
The British government has unfurled a number of animal welfare initiatives in the past few months that activists hope other European countries will soon follow.
One law in October banned licensed shops from dealing in puppies and kittens under the age of eight weeks.
Defra is now looking at legislation requiring all non-commercial rescue and re-homing centres to have a licence.
It separately urged families to steer clear of the temptation to buying their kids cute pets as Christmas gifts.
“This carries a number of risks and can have tragic consequences for animal welfare when pets are either abandoned or given to re-homing centres to deal with,” Defra said. “Pets should not be bought as a surprise.”

APC’ll win 2019 presidential election convincingly, Oshiomhole boasts

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress , Adams Oshiomhole , has expressed optimism that his party will win the 2019 presidential election convincingly .
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Oshiomhole spoke with State House correspondents after a meeting he had with Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa , Abuja, on Thursday.

The APC chairman said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party was not an option .
He claimed that Nigerians are not ready to vote for the PDP again .

He said , “ PDP is just not an option ; particularly when their candidate is not a new face ; there is no basis for benefit of the doubt .
“ You can give benefit of the doubt to a stranger , not to someone who was at the heart; perhaps one of most powerful vice presidents we have ever had.
“ So , I am clear that Nigerians will not have any basis to give PDP the benefit of the doubt .”
He said the PDP wanted to be in power for 60 years but were driven out after 16 years .
According to him , no employer will recall an employee whose job was terminated due to gross misconduct and abuse of office .
The APC national chairman recalled that the PDP National Chairman , Uche Secondus , apologised to Nigerians but Nigerians did not accept the apology .
He added, “ I have not heard anybody say they have accepted the apology . People that have robbed you ; they don ’ t apologise and say ‘ allow me back to your store room .’ You don ’ t do that .
“ We are certain that even as we cannot talk of any perfect situation , nothing can make Nigerians get so confused as to think that those who mismanaged yesterday and those who were at the heart of that mismanagement can be entrusted with providing leadership for tomorrow .
“ I do not think that is a question at all . PDP is out of this calculation as far as I am concerned .”
Oshiomhole said that all was set for the inauguration of the party ’ s campaign on Friday in Uyo , Akwa Ibom State .
According to him , it will be the President ’ s first rally taking place in the South- South which is very significant .

Oshiomhole said from all the feelers from the state , the people were anxious to receive the President and to hear his message.

“ We are all in good mood , ” he added.

Banditry in Nigeria: A brief history of a long war

Bandits ” have emerged as the new bogeyman for insecurity in Nigeria , joining a long ( and still growing list ) that includes Boko Haram , cultists , herdsmen , kidnappers and militants . In different parts of the North - West , from Birnin- Gwari in Kaduna to Tsafe in Zamfara, bandits are offered as the trope for an intolerable carnage, and the inexplicable haplessness of a Federal Government that doesn ’ t appear to care for much else in an election season. As this lamentable state metastasises , it may be worthwhile to reflect on banditry in Nigeria .
In different parts of Nigeria , banditry is used to describe different variants of outlawry. In reality , the usage conflates two underlying problems – ineffective law enforcement in Southern Nigeria , and the crisis of ungoverned spaces in Northern Nigeria . Since Independence , successive governments have had to confront variants of these trends . The evidence over time suggests a link between governance, its failures , and banditry .
In This Present Darkness, his history of organised crime in Nigeria , Stephen Ellis traces post - independence banditry in Nigeria to “ shortly before the civil war , when government broke down in some parts of the Western Region and there was a blurred line between political violence, crime, and organised insurgency .” At the end of the war , the military regime of Gowon failed to manage demobilisation. As demobilised combatants from the war returned home to nothing to do , outlawry became appealing .
In Southern Nigeria , which comprises a mere 29% of Nigeria ’ s nearly 924 , 000 km ² of landmass , urban banditry ensued . Unsurprisingly , armed robbery in built - up areas of the country was an early manifestation . An early exponent of this was Ishola Oyenusi , a high- school dropout who chose to be called “ the Doctor ” and terrorised Lagos at the end of the Civil War . In response , the military government introduced mandatory death by firing squad for convicted armed robbers . The first set of public executions took place in front of Bar Beach , in Victoria Island , Lagos on April 26, 1971 . Less than four and a half months later , on September 8, 1971 , Oyenusi was executed at the same location .
Urban banditry was not confined to southern Nigeria . In April 1970, three armed men robbed a bank in Kano of £ 27 , 750 .
The pace of public executions quickly escalated . By 1976 , over 400 armed robbers had been publicly executed by firing squad . In 1984 alone , under the regime of Major -General Muhammadu Buhari , there were at least 338 such executions. In 12 years between 1984 and 1996, over 1 , 200 of such executions took place . Around the same time , drug trafficking emerged as a major factor in outlawry in Nigeria .
It appeared that each succeeding decade saw an intensification of urban outlawry in different parts of southern Nigeria . In the 1980 s , the poster - boy was Lawrence Anini , another school drop - out who concatenated indiscriminate violence with a touch of the Robin Hood marinated in advocacy for the downtrodden . Anini ’ s reign of terror in the then Bendel State and surrounding states was facilitated by the complicity of some senior police personnel who helped to provide his gang with intelligence and made evidence against them to disappear . When two members of his gang were convicted in mid - 1986 following effective police work, Anini turned his guns against the police in an intense rampage of mass killing , during which 10 police officers in Bendel State died between August and October 1986 . That would prove to be his undoing . Military President , Ibrahim Babangida, turned up the heat on then Inspector - General of Police , Etim Inyang, famously asking him during a meeting of the then ruling military council in October 1986 : “ Where is Anini ”? Two months later , in December 1986 , the police arrested Anini and dismantled his gang, which included Monday Osunbor , a Police Superintendent . In March 1987, they were executed .
In the 1990 s , Shina Rambo terrorised parts of South- West Nigeria with similar escapades . In South- East Nigeria , the Otokoto case in Owerri, Imo State , in 1996 revealed a netherworld of ritualised human sacrifice . By the 2000 s , commercial kidnapping , political violence and assassinations would emerge as dominant forms of outlawry. The best - known exponents included a man known as Osisikankwu ( Obioma Nwankwo) in Abia State and resource militants in the Niger Delta . In Abia State and parts of the South-East Nigeria , government broke down and security was taken over by a bandit , vigilante horde , known as Bakassi Boys .
Three additional factors collaborated in launching this new phase .
First, public universities became fertile breeding grounds for outlaws . The story of how this came about lies in the history of competition between university- based confraternities . The Pyrates Confraternity , the oldest of these confraternities in Nigeria would be forced to leave the universities about 1986 . The Supreme Eiye Confraternity ( National Association of Airlords) emerged in Lagos around 1965 as rival to the Pyrates . In Ibadan, the National Association of Sealords , better known as the Buccaneers , followed by 1972 . The University of Calabar produced the Klansmen Confraternity and in the University of Port Harcourt , the Vikings emerged . The growth of these groups coincided with the emergence of articulate civic activism in the universities led by the National Union of Nigerian Students , later known as the National Association of Nigerian students . Military rulers co- opted these cults to disrupt official student activism . Competing groups in the politics of university administration also found them useful . In the Niger Delta , Stephen Ellis recalls , they “ became a factor in the region ’ s politics.”
Second, Babangida’ s transition to civil rule programme created a mutual support network between politicians, robbers and cults. By 2008 , Mujahid Asari Dokubo , asked how the armed youths who traded in violence acquired their weapons , answered the Rivers State Truth and Reconciliation Commission presided over by former Supreme Court Justice, Kayode Eso : “ The guns were purchased with money disbursed by politicians.”
Third , mismanagement of natural resources exploitation in both the North and the South energised the transition from urban to rural banditry . Mismanagement of the economy did the rest . Southern Kaduna , for instance , had always been rich in gemstones, including diamond , sapphire , quartz , ruby, temaline , and aquamarine . In the early - to -mid 1980 s , this set off a mad rush of artisanal gemstone rustlers who would invade communities in Jema ’ a . The rustlers came from as far as Mali , Senegal and Sudan in search of shiny gemstones that the locals called “ devil stones ” . In 1986 , Newswatch Magazine ’ s Aniete Usen reported “ cases of eliminating by kidnapping , sudden disappearance of dealers and diggers and a whole range of other blood - chilling tales . The barons, agents and diggers became fanatically… . fully armed with automatic weapons .” The weapons they brought into Southern Kaduna would feature prominently in the first Kafanchan crisis in 1987. Their methods have been evident in the descent from artisanal mining to organised banditry in Birnin- Gwari and Zamfara, three decades later .
In the Niger Delta , the military government of General Sani Abacha introduced guns to quell civic advocacy for resource justice . In 1994 , they deployed the Joint ( Military ) Task Force . Nearly a quarter of a century later , the guns are everywhere and the JTF is mired in an interminable mission.
In a little - noticed release on December 21, Nigeria ’ s Defence Minister , Mansur Dan- Ali , a retired one - Star General , himself also from Zamfara State , complained : “ The issue of ( sic ) drug abuse , unemployment and governance amongst others contributes to the deplorable security situation in Zamfara State .” The best the current administration has done is the launch in December 2018 of a Presidential Advisory Committee on the Elimination of Drug Abuse . Chaired by Brig . Buba Marwa ( retd ., its membership also includes the wives of both the President and the Vice- President . This looks more like a token than a policy response .
Quite clearly , successive regimes in Nigeria have in different ways made efforts , mostly futile or counter- productive, to address the different kinds of banditry that they confronted . The difference this time round , it seems , is that the government of the day appears not to be much bothered by the rising human toll of the descent into an ungoverned country , nor does it care to tell the country why it can ’ t afford to be bothered .

HE PROF BEN AYADE GESTURE AT NORTHFEST.

The executive governor of Cross River State HE PROF BEN AYADE demonstrated love at NORTHFEST when he bought a handkerchief at the rate of 100,000.00.

This is the kind of head work, the thinking mentality  that we look unto,it is not all about buying a handkerchief but uplifting and giving hope to the handkerchief seller in the grassroot.Ayade has been a personality I look up to for a very long period of time now.He carried the less privileged in his heart always.

The Governor can not left his office all the way to Cross River north without a handkechief in his pocket u and i know that? But he has shown to the good people of Cross River north and Nigerians that u dont need to know someone before u intervene not minding where the person is coming from, the seller does not know that he will be touched by the Governor on this day,but the governor has identify him in his struggle for survival. He has taking the handkerchief business to a greater height. This is what we call empowerment.

When I hear people people calling the governor names as a 419,I used to laugh because so many don't know that God has giving u a head to use it wisely and think and utilize it to change the narrative. Now,would you refers to our popular norllywood actor Mr John Okafor(Mr Ibu) as a fool?No should be the general answer if u will agree with me.The man in question is intelligent and can think very well to solve any situation that come his way in the process of film production. This is the kind of intellectuall ability that the executive governor  Prof Ben Ayade is using to sustain Cross River State as a whole.

I never wanted to start pin pointing Ayade achievements here because it is numerous in terms of overhauling the state.Ayade is the right man for our dear state for now,the only man who has manage the state well and driving it through industrialization.Let's join hands to support him to complete and stabilize the state once again till 2023.
If u vote Ayade come 2019,u will never regret it because he think like the white man.

He is good to go and ready to do more.

In one of his quote he said
Switch on ur brain and the money will follow -Prof Ben Ayade
Code 888 is the way.
2019 is assured.
Vote prof Ben Ayade come 2019 for continuity.

Breaking_News: Governor Ben. Ayade returns the biggest flag in Africa back to position ...See photos

#Breaking_News

Governor Ben. Ayade Benedict returns the biggest flag in Africa back to position with an extension 3x6 meters, making it the biggest flag hoisted in 2018 in the world.
Project facilitated by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurship and Job Placement Cross River State Mr. Joseph Lashakara Edet.

Cross River State is gradually getting back on track!

Cross River State to turn Shit into Sugar.

Don't shout and wonder, Every negative situation contains the possibility for something positive.

2019 is the year of opportunities. It is how you look at it. Our lack of resources is advantage.

For Four years, we have continually survived the worst that life can bring. Time to cease to be controlled by fear is now.

With no money, Cross is turning into an industrial hub.

The more we are denied of the wealth of Nigeria nation,  to force us to remain dependants on beggary political schemes, the more we recreate and invent new ways of making wealth and taking ourselves to the first world ruled not by hungry and greedy politicians but by industrialized market economy.

I have a dream, yet the dream is too real today, to be a dream, so I call it, "The Realities of 2019 and beyond."

This is the "Ayadeism spirit of enterprise." The greatest confidence of tomorrow future, seen and felt today.

LETTER TO YOUTH BY COALITION OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS

Keep your Degree in a safe custody for future opportunity, and engage in entrepreneur skills, otherwise you will die poor.

Most of the educated people in Nigeria are poor. Majority of the educated earn less than N55,000 for a salary before tax and other deductions. When the deductions are put into consideration, the net salary comes to around N50,000. The net salary then suffers from loan deductions of up to N15,000 leaving the salary at around N35,000. The landlord then demands for his N15,000 and monthly shopping takes away N10,000 leaving one with a N10,000. The bus will demand for N300 going to and from work and relatives get another N2,500. The whole salary is gone and borrowed money starts operating. The borrowed money includes short loans and salary advances.

The difference between poverty and prosperity is property. A prosperous person has property to his name while a poverty stricken person has no property to show. Using this understanding, therefore, most of the degree holders are poverty stricken, borrowing money to buy chicken and chips, pizza, and a car.

The biggest excuse for getting paid such low amounts of money and having to sit and work for another person for 30 days is THE DEGREE that one possesses and that’s all. This has made most of the degree holders very poor to poverty stricken and will die that way most likely. A degree holder does not know how to generate money unless that money is generated for the employer. A degree holder is so dependent on the salary that he can do anything to get a job but will not think of starting a business of his own to employ others.

Interesting Facts!

1.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell chips but is very happy to work for hungry lion (companies).

2.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell popcorn in the street but is very happy to work for Dangote outlet in the city and mum river-sides.

3.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell second hand clothes but is very happy to be employed by Zenith Bank which the business of selling stocks and looking for customers in a scorching Sun.

4.   A degree holder is not prepared to make N150,000 monthly doing his own business but is very happy to work at the till in a bank getting paid N25,000.

5.   A degree holder is not prepared to start a company and grow it in two to three years but will spend three years searching for a job.

6.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell food to students but will be happy to be reporting to a boss with no qualifications as Office Assistant as long as he is paid N30,000 for a salary.

7.   A degree holder is so eager to get out of this country and work in another country than spend time to develop his own country.

8.   A degree holder staying in a foreign land (Nigerian) is very keen to condemn Nigeria but never contributing to the development of this country.

9.   A Nigerian degree holder would rather sweep the streets of London or USA than start a business to make money in her father land – others work in people’s homes doing some work (cleaners).

10. A degree holder in Nigeria will watch porn on his laptop but never sit to write a book using the same laptop to sell and make money.

11. A degree holder will blame the government for lack of jobs even after he was on government bursary for him to have his degree.

12. Nigeria is blessed with young people who have master’s degree and others are doctors in different technical fields such as IT and Engineering but all of them have failed to create a cartoon character or develop a movie from the same instead very happy to buy Tom and Jerry for their children thereby promoting American and UK.

A school I visit, there is a man that is of very humble background. He does not speak English but sells Coke, Fanta and Sprite at N80 each making a profit of N10 on each drink. He also sells chips at N50 making a profit of N17 on each portion. Not less than 80 students buy chips and a drink every single day. This means he makes a profit of N27 for a drink and chips and a total profit of N2,160 per day…every single day. In ten days he makes a profit of N21,600 in twenty days N43,200 and in thirty days N64,800.

The degree holder working in a bank at the till gets a salary of N45,000 every month.

Why are the degree holders poor?

Because they have decided to pride themselves in a degree and failed to think better than a man who does not have even a certificate to his name.

Degree holders spend their time liking articles on linkedIn and facebook but never have any care in the world to implement what they like. Poverty starts from the mind, a mind that just likes things but never to implement those things.

If you want to progress, keep that degree and start thinking better than someone without a degree. There's no white collar Job anywhere bro!

Be prepared to get your hands dirty and work like an ox for your business. Your hard work will pay off.

Think Success!!! Think Entrepreneurship!!!👌👌

Yours Sincerely.....

Coalition Of Social Entrepreneurs...
fight your way to that financial freedom you seek.
