The Chairperson for Cross river state child protection commissione,Hon.Chief Mrs.Theresa Ezama has called on governments’ at all level, corporate individuals, international organizations and other relevant authorities for collaboration in building a sustainable and enduring peace in the Yala/Izzi area.
The Chairperson of the commission says the brainchild behind the establishment of the initiative was to sustain and bring peace to the region , adding, "without peace there will be no meaningful development to strive in the region".
She disclosed this during a meeting held in Calabar the Cross river state capital , the aims and objectives of the initiative is to promote peace within the communities of the Yala/Izzi region and its environs, promoting a conducive atmosphere/enabling environment and support government peace road map initiative in Cross River state .
According to her, the commission will henceforth organize peace building seminars, workshops and training with the participation of seasoned resource persons and professionals from reputable institutions within and outside the state, noting that the commission intend to sensitize youths, create awareness, trainings and empowerment of youths, women and physically challenged and less privileged persons in the rural communities in the region.
The commission will act as synergy between Yala/Izzi communities, government and stakeholders engaged in addressing issues that brings disharmony, advising youths to desist from vandalism of government valuable properties in the region.
While adding that the Commission will also promote academic excellence to the people through quality education, scholarship, and care for the less privileged persons in the communities, acknowledging that the Commission has received credit from federal government of Nigeria and its activities endorsed.
In their separate remarks, members of the National Working Committee of the group,Mrs. Blessing Oqua said the Commission will always orient youths in the region to have rethink and change the mindset of people and urge its members to always preach peace in their domain to ensure sustainable peace and development in the region.
According to her, the aims and objectives of the commission will solve many teething problems confronting the people in the region when adequately implemented.
She said the commission will liaison and partner with the military and other security agencies in building peace and create cordial relationship with the military to sustain peace in the region.
Mrs.Oqua believed that Peace Builders will put modalities in addressing issues that governments failed to address in the region, the commission will continue to visit communities and local government areas to ascertain issues affecting communities and engaged the appropriate bodies and agencies for dialogue to resolve such issues.
