The social media on Friday went wild over Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa, who scored a brace in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Iceland in their 2018 World Cup Group D tie at the Volgograd Arena.
Musa’s goals gave Nigeria the three points which kept the country’s hopes of qualifying from Group D alive after their 2-0 loss to Croatia in their opening match last Saturday.
On various social media platforms, Nigerians expressed their excitement and praised the Leicester City forward in different forms. On Instagram, Musa gained over 30,000 followers after the match.
On Twitter, Reno Omokri, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, said Musa made Nigerians happy with his five-star performance.
He wrote, “Ahmed Musa once again proved that talents abound in all parts of Nigeria and that no part of Nigeria will lose out if we restructure and replace ethnicity with merit. If not for this Northerner, Nigeria would have had little hope in this #RussiaWorldCup2018. All Nigerians matter.
“Ahmed Musa has brought more joy to Nigerians in 90 minutes than Buhari has brought to Nigeria in three years. No blame game. No excuses. The guy just scored. And to prove it was not a fluke, he scored again.”
Popular disc jockey DJ Spinall promised to play for Musa for free in appreciation for the feat.
He wrote, “Dear Ahmed Musa, you brought joy to the whole continent! On behalf of the entire country, I say a big THANK YOU. I owe you two free gigs!!! God bless the Super Eagles.”
Political analyst and critic Japhet Omojuwa wrote, “That first touch for Ahmed Musa’s 1st goal? That control? If you have that level of control over your destiny, forget it, you are made for life! See first touch! Go get your PVC. Ahmed Musa 2019.”
Musician Innocent Idibia, who is popularly called 2Baba, posted a video of Musa’s first goal with the tweet, “Ahmed Musa is a go. Nigeria is a go.”
Popular television presenter Frank Edoho also wrote, “Iceland’s thunderclap received a clap back today. Well done, Boys! Ahmed Musa was immense and because of that I am free of Ghana’s insults! Go Eagles!”
Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media Bashir Ahmad wrote, “Ahmed Musa, Nigeria’s highest goal scorer at the #WorldCup with 4 goals. First Nigeria’s player to score in two #WorldCup. #NGA.”
Also, on several platforms, a picture of the forward announcing him as a presidential candidate, who should be voted for, spread like wildfire on Friday with the tag ‘Change the Formation 2019. Ahmed Musa for President’.
