Nigeria’s 23-man squad to the 2018 World Cup have been assigned squad numbers with captain Mikel Obi retaining the No.10 jersey, which he has won since legendary midfielder Austin Okocha retired from the national team.
Deportivo La Coruna’s Francis Uzoho, who is being tipped to start in goal at the World Cup will spot the No. 23 shirt while fellow keepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi have been handed the No.1 and No.16 jerseys respectively.
The No. 4 jersey, previously worn by Nigerian legends, Muda Lawal, Stephen Keshi and Nwankwo Kanu, has been handed to Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, who’s recuperating from injury.
Crotone striker, Simeon Nwankwo, who made his debut in the recent friendly against DR Congo in Port Harcourt, will wear the No.13 shirt, China-based Odion Ighalo retains his No.9 shirt while Kelechi Iheanacho gets the No.14, previously made popular by 1994 World Cup star Daniel Amokachi
