The current proliferation of industries and massive engagement of labour in Cross River is, certainly, a bail-out from her economic laid-back. It is no longer news that Cross River State is the second poorest in the country, but it is, unbelievably, true that the economic desert called Cross River is gradually being replete with man-made oasis and in a while, the lush of prosperity will take the place of her economic wilderness.
Governor Ben is the second in the world to adopt this model of economic and infrastructural renewal in the time of economic crisis. Herbert Hoover, the 31st American President, had fought the Great Depression by increasing federal government spending more than 50% and engaging in massive public works projects during his four years in office between 1928 and 1932 which is what Governor Ben is doing now. Gradually, the state is being shielded from all levels of revenue shocks with the ascendancy of self reliance and dependence which is the actual decoupling of the state from every form of external revenue dependence.
With the economic and commercial foundation Governor Ben is laying in the state now, very soon, it is the Federal Government that will even remind or disturb Cross River to come and sign her monthly allocation which must have accumulated for months and Cross River will reluctantly do.
