Adoga Michael Oyi

Latest update as A 40-year-old dismissed police sergeant identified as David Dimba, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command has revealed his shabby dressing, while in police uniform gave the game away that he was not a genuine officer.
The man from Adamawa State who was apprehended for wearing and using police uniform for illegalities, especially when he knows he was no longer a policeman, added that he had never used the uniform to commit any crime, that he only used it to board commercial buses, so that he wouldn’t have to pay for his fare, he said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said that the suspect was caught at Ikeja Under Bridge, where he uses police uniform to fool commercial bus drivers, so that he wouldn’t pay for his bus fare.
Dimba said: “I got a security job and was supposed to report there, but had no money. I decided to use my police uniform in other to get free bus ride to Ikeja. I admit my action was wrong. I have been detained since Monday.
“I was a sergeant before I was dismissed. I joined the Police in 2001. I was serving in Abuja Police Command when I was dismissed. I was dismissed for desertion; it means absconding from duty, with no intention of returning.
“It was the devil that made me to use the uniform to commit such an offense. But the truth is that I didn’t have N200 on me, so I decided to use the influence of the uniform to board a commercial bus.
“I deserted in 2015. I came to Lagos two weeks ago after I was told by a friend that I would be given a job at the secretariat. Due to my naivety, I went ahead to use the uniform as I got to Ikeja.
“I met a policeman to ask for directions to the secretariat; that was when he asked me if I was a policeman due to the way I was dressed. I wore a sandal and looked rough. Before my dismissal, I served in Maitama Division Police Station, Abuja.”
Dimba said that he regretted his actions and admitted that he had committed a crime. He asked the police for forgiveness, adding: “The police can collect its uniform. I don’t want it anymore. I promise not to wear any police uniform for any reason again.”
