Just watched a disturbing video from yesterday where a governorship campaign coordinator of Rochas's inlaw, Uche Nwosu physically ran to the altar to attack the Archbishop who was preaching against the decadence in governance in Imo state and advising the people to go get their voters' cards in time for 2019. It took the intervention of priests and knights in the church to prevent Uche Nwosu's campaign director from inflicting grievous bodily harm on his grace, Archbishop AJV Obinna- even after hurling expletives in his direction. Before I continue, I need to ask why attack on respected clergy seems to be a norm in Imo state?
First, former governor Ohakim ordered and supervised the merciless flogging of a roman catholic priest(whose only offence was asking Ohakim to sit up), a situation which led to a mass revolt and Ohakim losing his re-election bid and totally losing political relevance. Then it was Ndi Mbaise publicly humiliating Bishop Okpalaeke and literally throwing him out of the diocese and now this!
From videos and pictures of the event, the chief of staff and governorship hopeful, Uche Nwosu and even Rochas's wife were present and did little to prevent their associate from going on with the assault on the highly loved senior clergy.
Imo people made a mistake by allowing Rochas con them and become their governor. They also made the same mistake again by giving him an opportunity to get re-elected. If his son-in-law who has already started showing his true colour is allowed to even carry second position in the ballot under any excuse whatsoever, then, I'll simply conclude that...
What I'm saying in essence is, even if it means Ndi Imo resorting to organised violence to prevent the imposition of a riffraff by a charlatan, sobeit!
