That’s why God put that on me at age 40.

Digging deep into the similarities between these two women, we found out that they both attended the same higher institution, The Polytechnic, Ibadan . This is just a coincidence, but it goes to show that we live in a very small world.
While Toyin Aimakhu bagged a Higher National Diploma in Marketing for the institution, Mercy Aigbe received an Ordinary National Diploma in Financial Studies from the same institution.

The election season is almost here and Seun Kuti is advocating that it is time to cast a vote of no confidence on the political system.
The singer, activist and son to music legend, Fela Kuti made this known on Monday, June 4, 2018, via his Instagram where he said it is pointless picking up PVCs when we don't even know we are voting for.
"Shouting GET YOUR PVC UPANDAN. WHAT ARE WE VOTING FOR? My brother my sister not voting in a system that fails to represent you isn’t a lack of participation. It only becomes that if you are not actively building the system you want outside of the oppressive state. PVC na person contract ooo if u don’t collect dem sef no go collect bar, hence the advert not because it helps us.
"The leadership that must representing us will not be about winning elections or chasing your votes but will be about empowering our minds and inspiring our consciousness. It will, by its own positive essence, spur us to participate in its own party politics. We shall all be interested in its delegates and candidates for every primary and election respectively. It’s shall be OUR PARTY. When u see the party it will be your reflection.
"Then and only then do the people have a party. My people, PVC collection isn’t participation, it’s manipulation. Don’t let anyone force you to endorse their system until you are sure it represents you. Time to cast a vote of no confidence in the political system and build our own! This is the task of the #liberationgeneration," he wrote.
Apart from being an amazing singer, we all know Seun Kuti is one gentleman who is never shy to speak about the ills of the society and the social issues bothering the country.

The Eagles Voice Blog
By Emmanuel Elebeke
ABUJA— PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari said, yesterday, that his administration will grant pioneer status to tourism projects in Nigeria.
He said this while declaring open the 61st Meeting of United Nations World Tourism Organisation Commission for Africa, UNWTO-CAF, themed: Tourism Statistics: A Catalyst for Development in Abuja.
President Muhammadu Buhari addresses the delegation after his Investiture as grand Patron by Nigerian Red Cross Society during a courtesy visit held at the Council Chamber State House in Abuja.

President Buhari said: “I am delighted to address this auspicious occasion of the 61st meeting of United Nations World Tourism Organization, UNWTO, Commission for Africa, CAF, holding this year in Abuja, Nigeria.
“The importance of tourism and its potentials to national economies cannot be overemphasized. Tourism, as we all know, contributes to the wealth of nations and the well-being of citizens, largely through foreign exchange earnings, generation of revenue, creation of employment, knowledge, cultural integration as well as increase the GDP of the country.
“I call on tourists and investors in the tourism sector to consider Nigeria as their second home. This government has attractive investment incentives for investors in the tourism sector.
“Government is also deepening the legislative and institutional capacities for the protection of intellectual property rights in Nigeria. This will give all investors the assurance of security of their rights especially in the creative industry.
“Let me use this opportunity to earnestly commend the leadership of the UNWTO, the Commission for Africa, CAF, and, most importantly, the Tourism Ministers from all over Africa for considering Nigeria worthy of hosting this great event this year.
“Nigeria will continue to count on your support to host more international events as we will also support you whenever the opportunity knocks at your door.”
Buhari, who described the conference theme as apt and timely, said the event could not have come at a better time than now, considering the significance of Tourism Statistics and Tourism Satellite Account, TSA, in measuring the contribution of the tourism sector to the national economy.
We’ll create jobs through tourism — UNWTO scribe
In his address, Secretary General of UNWTO, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, said: “We will make tourism special and use it to create jobs, alleviate poverty and wealth. But how far we will go will depend on how much we invest in African tourism. We will seek new partnership, engage private sector to develop tourism.”

Mohammed said: “Tourism has become an important sector of the economy for many member states, especially as an important source of foreign exchange earnings, employment generation and income creation, in addition to encouraging infrastructural development and poverty reduction. For us in Nigeria, it is one of the sectors we have identified as very key to our economic diversification agenda.”

NNPC rejects Falana’s request for fuel importation information...SEE DETAILS

By Abdulwahab
The Eagles Voice
THE Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has declared that it has no obligation to respond to the Freedom of Information, FoI, request made by human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana(SAN), on fuel importation and sundry matters.

In a letter by NNPC’s lawyer, O. B. Omale, addressed to Falana, it stated that the law that established NNPC, precludes it from one of the government’s body under obligations to disclose information under the FoI Act.
Omale said: “Please be informed that our client does not fall within the purview of the Freedom of Information, FoI, Act, 2011.
“The provision of the Act, particularly Section 31 thereof is clear and unambiguous as to the meaning of Public Institution.
“Our client is neither a legislative, executive, judicial, administrative or advisory body of Government of Nigeria.
“It is a body established by law to manage the commercial interests of Nigeria in the oil and gas sector of the economy and conduct trade therein.
“It cannot, therefore, by any stretch of imagination be brought within the definition of Public Institution under the Act.
“This position has received judicial endorsement via the Federal High Court’s decisions in several cases, including two cases instituted by Messrs. Public & Private Developments Centre Ltd.”
The corporation’s lawyer said documents and information requested by Falana “are expressly excluded from the purview of the Act by virtue of the provisions of Section 15( 1)( a)-( c) thereof, as they relate to trade secrets, commercial and financial information, which obviously are either subject to non-disclosure agreements or whose disclosure will likely interfere with contractual rights and obligations of third parties or harm their interests.”

QUITE EDUCATING... The ecological, human impacts of oil spills are highly diverse – Prof Rim-Rukeh

The Eagles Voice
Despite the plans of many stakeholders, including the government and operators, oil and gas remain the dominant sources of pollution in Nigeria’s petroleum producing areas. In this interview with Udeme Akpan, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, a professor of Environmental studies, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta state provides deep insight into issues as well as solutions.
What do you consider to be the major environmental issues in Nigeria’s oil and gas producing areas?
Major environmental issues arising from the oil and gas activities are many, including oil spill and continuous gas flare.
How severe are these problems, especially in terms of impact on individuals, households and the society?
The ecological and human impacts of oil spills are highly diverse and its effects are on a wide scale. Surface water bodies (rivers, streams and creeks) are major sources of drinking water in most oil producing communities, but today such water bodies are undrinkable. When oil spills occur in streams, rivers and lakes, it alters the quality of the water, thus making it unfit for human consumption. It has been speculated that, one barrel of crude oil can make one million barrels of water undrinkable.
Fishing as a traditional occupation is the peoples’ sources of income. Today, this traditional occupation is being eroded as a result of oil spills. It is estimated that up to 40per cent of the oil producing agricultural land is seriously contaminated with oil spills, making such size of land unproductive.
Have oil and gas companies put in place adequate structures and systems in place to prevent and manage their environmental problems?
The structures and systems of oil and gas companies are not adequate to prevent and manage the environmental problems arising from their activities. For example, some of their buried pipelines are as old as 50 years in which the integrity of such structures is now questionable. In addition, the response time to oil spills is far from International Standards.
Do government agencies, especially the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR have the capacity to monitor, regulate and enforce compliance?
The issue here is lack of manpower to monitor, regulate and enforce compliance. The present staff strength is overwhelmed with enormous environmental challenges.
How have oil vandalism, oil theft and illegal refining gone in worsening the environmental challenges in Nigeria’s oil and gas producing areas?
Illegal oil bunkering is the most commonly known form of oil theft and it involves direct tapping of oil pipelines. Illegal oil bunkering is any activity relating to the theft or sabotage of crude oil, facilities or installations in form of pipeline vandalism, illegal refining, etc. Illegal oil bunkering is the act of hacking into pipelines to steal crude oil which is later refined or sold abroad. It is an illicit trade that involves the theft of crude oil and its derivative products through a variety of mechanisms.
Illegal crude oil refining is the process of procuring stolen crude oil and refining them in the so-called bush refineries with the use of local resources and skills (drawing on the indigenous technology used to distil locally made gin – ogogoro or kaikai). The basic materials typically involves rudimentary systems – often made of metal pipes and drums welded together – in which crude oil is boiled and the resultant fumes are collected, cooled and condensed in tanks to be used locally for lighting, energy or transport.
Does the UNEP report represents the reality of the situation in Ogoniland?
UNEP report truly represents the environmental reality of the situation in Ogoniland. In the past two decades, the entire Ogoni land has been engulfed in a crisis of instability caused by protesting oil producing communities agitating for environmental protection. The protests of vary degree of manifestation have become a frequently occurring phenomenon. Some of the contentious issues have centred on delay in responses to spillages and outright refusal to clean spilled oil. Thus the oil communities are now pitched against the oil companies and government on one hand and against neighbouring communities on the other hand in a conflict, which not only threaten the oil industry but the corporate existence of the country.
The impact of oil spillages has been a source of worry to the Federal, State, Local Governments and the affected communities. This was partly responsible for the in the wake of the instability, oil industry operations were suspended in Ogoniland in 1993. However, environmental contamination remains. Upon a request from the Federal Government of Nigeria, UNEP undertook an independent study to determine the extent of the environmental impacts arising from oil industry operations in Ogoni land.
UNEP’s field observations and scientific investigations found that oil contamination in Ogoniland is widespread and severely impacting relevant components of the environment. The Ogoni people live with this pollution every day.
How far have government agencies and others gone in implementing the recommendations of the report?
At different fora, I have proposed the implementation strategies for the clean-up of Ogoni land in phases. Phase one, two three, four and five should include the inventorisation and categorisation study to determine status of the impacted sites; provision of emergency measures to the people, decommissioning of abandoned facilities, including artisan refineries and ancillary facilities, clean – up of crude oil contaminated land/soil and clean – up of crude oil ground water wells respectively.
Phase six, seven, eight, nine, 10 and 11 should include the clean – up of crude oil contaminated sediments, clean – up of crude oil contaminated surface water, re-vegetation and re-habilitation of identified impact – sites, restoration of wet lands, removal of invasive plant species (Nypa Palm, Water hyacinth) and monitoring of environmental restoration activities respectively.
Do you think the government, oil companies and other stakeholders are committed to the cleanup of Ogoniland?
At the on-set of the clean-up of Ogoniland, especially after flag-off ceremony, the snail speed of activities was worrisome. But today, some activities – the medical services, the call for contractors, the training of Ogoni youths – are signs of great commitment.
What problems are likely to be encountered in the process of carrying out the clean-up of Ogoniland and other parts of the Niger Delta and how can they be tackled?
I don’t envisage any challenges from the clean-up activities if the operators are transparent and open. The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) is on the right track. I commend their efforts.

New Everton boss Marco Silva targeting 'big name' transfers as he begins Goodison Park revolution

Theeaglesvoice.blogspot.com - Leave a comment

New Everton boss Marco Silva has a short list of "big names" he'd like to bring to Goodison Park after being unveiled as the club's new manager.
Silva was presented alongside recently-hired sporting director Marcel Brands, who arrives from PSV Eindhoven with a reputation for talent-spotting and said he spent his entire first day as an Everton employee on the phone to agents.
Transfer business is clearly going to be key to the Everton rebuild with Brands admitting the squad was "too big" and that players would be leaving.
But when quizzed on the incomings, Brands confirmed he would never bring in a player without the agreement of the head coach and Silva himself revealed he has some star names in his sights.
"I have big names," he said.
"The list is not so big."
"We will do everything we can to improve. I like to see competition between players every day."

Germany World Cup squad: Leroy Sane left out by Joachim Löw with Marco Reus and Mesut Özil included..SEE REASONS...

theeaglesvoice.blogspot.com - Leave a comment

Leroy Sane has been left out of Germany’s
World Cup 2018 squad for Russia 2018 by manager Joachim Low , despite playing a major part in Manchester City’s Premier League-winning campaign.
The 22-year-old, who this season was named PFA Young Player of the Year, scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists for City as they cruised to the Premier League title as well as the Carabao Cup, but Löw has not found space for him in his 23-man squad that will bid to successfully defend the World Cup in Russia.
The former Schalke winger missed last year’s Confederations Cup campaign in Russia in order to have an operation on his nose, with the decision believed to have not gone down well with Löw as he looked to develop the national team’s young players a year out from the World Cup.
Sane’s omission comes as a major shock given that both Marco Reus and Mario Gomez feature, with the former suffering heavily from injuries in recent years after missing both the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016 and the latter putting in an underwhelming season with Stuttgart.
Arsenal’s Mesut Özil is also included despite a below-par campaign with Arsenal, who finished sixth in the Premier League and failed to win any silverware that led to the departure of manager Arsene Wenger.
The Premier League contingent named in the squad is completed by Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and Sane’s club teammate İlkay Gündoğan.
Along with Sane, goalkeeper Bernd Leno, defender Jonathan Tah and forward Nils Petersen were the unlucky quartet to be cut from Löw’s squad, although Julian Brandt proved to be another surprise inclusion given the number of wingers already in the side.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer makes the cut after making his return to the national team in the weekend’s 2-1 defeat by Austria, having been sidelined since September after breaking a bone in his foot, and the captain set to remain as the first-choice No 1 ahead of Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Kevin Trapp of Paris Saint-Germain.
