Controversy surrounds Naomi Campbell's meeting with Buhari

Controversy surrounds Naomi Campbell's meeting with Buhari
By Eje Peter

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with British supermodel, Naomi Campbell, as he toured the Eko Atlantic City on Friday.
The supermodel was in Lagos for the Arise Fashion Week 2018, and many Nigerians were surprised to see her with the President during his tour of the new city under construction.
The British model had earlier tweeted that she was in Nigeria on the request of the Nigerian government but deleted the post shortly after.
She tweeted, "Was a pleasure to be invited by his Excellency, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the private launch of Eko Atlantic @NGRPresident @MBuhari."
After deleting the post, she replaced it with, "Was a pleasure to meet His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the launch of Eko Atlantic. Here for Arise Fashion Week."
However, before the first post was deleted, Nigerians had already seen it and bombarded the model with questions, with some asking why she deleted her initial post.
A Twitter user simply identified as, Olawoyin4u, posted a screenshot of her first post and asked why the supermodel deleted the tweet. He posted on his twitter handle, "Nigerians want to know why you deleted the post below?"
The Presidency also denied reports that President Buhari had invited the British actor, singer and model for the tour of the Eko Atlantic City. It claimed that the President met Campbell at Eko Atlantic City and that she requested to take some pictures with Buhari.
A tweet by the Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, said, "For the sake of clarity, President MBuhari didn't invite Ms. Naomi Campbell to any event during his 2-day visit to Lagos State."

Jose: No need to sign a striker

JOSE: NO NEED TO SIGN A STRIKER
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says he has no plans to sign a striker this summer, despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving the club last week.

By Eje Peter

The Swede's departure has reduced Mourinho's centre-forward options by one, but the Reds manager believes that several members of his squad can play in that role if required.
"We have Lukaku and Marcus Rashford as number nines, and of course Marcus can play right and left, but Marcus is a striker," he told reporters on Friday.
"Alexis [Sanchez] can play as a striker, [Anthony] Martial can play as a striker, so without having another Lukaku, we have three more players that can play as a nine.
"If we don't have Lukaku for different reasons, we can change systems and play with two and give more mobility to, for example, Marcus and Martial together, Marcus and Alexis together, so we are not going to go for another number nine."
Rashford and Martial have scored 23 goals between them this season, and while Alexis is still adjusting to life at Old Trafford, he has a proven goalscoring record and found the back of the net on 30 occasions for Arsenal last season.
Ibrahimovic was United's top scorer during 2016/17 and Mourinho praised the outgoing 36-year-old after he bid farewell to join LA Galaxy.
"I always feel very, very sorry when the big ones finish or when the big ones go to the last period of their careers," admitted the United boss. "So for me, the Zlatan goodbye moment was more in that direction.
"He's a huge, big player that top football, European football is losing now and we lose forever, because he will not be back to this level of football. But I think it's fantastic for him in this period. I think this period with Galaxy, these couple of years, probably, will be very good for him.
"I think he's more... what the MLS and the US as a football country is going to get is more than what Zlatan is going to get, because for him I think it will just be a way to enjoy probably the last year or last couple of years of his football.
"It will be very good for American football because of what he can do, what he can teach, what he can attract, his personality, his passion for football and the level of professionalism he always has. Even his recovery was an example of what a professional should be."

JAMB candidates protest alleged irregularities

By Eje Peter
About 95 students who reportedly registered to write the just concluded Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducted exam in Ebonyi State, Friday protested alleged irregularities during the exam.
According to them, the irregularities include not being allowed to write the exams in some of the centres in the state and disappearance of their results from the JAMB website.
The students claimed that they were split into two sets at the Stella Maris Centre in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State since the hall and available computers could not accommodate all of them. But after the first set, there was no time to conduct the exams for the second batch, they said.
The protesters also included other candidates who alleged what they described as "mysterious" disappearance of their results from the board's website after it had been reportedly released.
They carried placards with various inscriptions showing their displeasure.
One of the candidates, Okorie Felicia, noted that the JAMB officials told them "to wait that their exams would be rescheduled since there was no space and computers to accommodate them."
"We were supposed to have our exams on March 10, 2018 by 9.00 a.m. About 95 of us were asked to wait that we will write our exams before another segment by 1.00 p.m. We waited patiently but those accommodated in the 9.00 a.m. segment extended to the afternoon exams. Since then, the JAMB officials have not done anything to reschedule the exams for us."
Another candidate, Ugwu Peter, explained how his results "disappeared."
"My own case is I checked my result and I scored 274 and on going to print the result, no mark was found. I 'screenshot' the result on my phone but it disappeared when I went back to print it out. Nobody has told us what happened since then and I am afraid as to what may have happened to the result."
Meanwhile, a coordinator at one of the centres in the state, who spoke on condition of anonymity, called on the examination board to revert to the paper exams rather than the present computerised format. He said lack of exam materials at various centres culminated in the inefficiencies in the conduct of the examinations.
However, when contacted, the Ebonyi State JAMB coordinator, Jame Iheme, said she was not aware of any protest.
"Where did you say the candidates protested? I was not told but if you want to publish what happened, go ahead," she said in response to an enquiry from PREMIUM TIMES(correspondent).

Osama told the Police that he met Melaye at Airport road, Abuja inside the Senator Melaye's car in the month of December 2017

Dino Melaye ) challenge his political opponents and disorganize Kogi State.

Heads of Security Agencies Expresses worry

By Eje peter

Heads of the nation's security agencies have expressed worry over alleged ongoing attempts by some groups to disrupt the processes leading to the 2019 general elections.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
Shehu said the heads of the security agencies expressed the worry during an interactive session they had with some media owners and senior journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.
The presidential spokesman listed those who addressed the media practitioners to include the Director General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura; Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar; and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin.
He quoted them as saying that the aim of the unnamed groups was to create a stalemate in the polity.
He said, "The security chieftains expressed the particular worry that there are groups in the country with evil designs to disrupt the processes leading to the 2019 general elections in the hope of creating a stalemate.
"They warned the media against the activities of some unregistered groups that have lately been active in trying to undermine critical institutions such as the law-enforcement agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
"The security heads also called for closer cooperation from the media to prevent terrorists and radical ideologies directed from abroad from undermining the ongoing efforts to restore security in parts of the country facing the challenges of terrorism, economic sabotage, criminality, farmers-herdsmen's clashes and the spread of illegal weapons."
Shehu said in the midst of the debate over the right to freedom of expression and the government's efforts to ensure that the digital space and the mass media generally did not become a playground for terrorism and destabilisation, the security chiefs gave assurances that they would maintain a balance between openness and national security.
He said they however called on media owners and journalists to walk the fine balance between openness on one hand and national security on the other.
According to him, the security chiefs also gave assurances that the security situation in the country was within the control of the government.
He further quoted them as saying that the situation could be helped where the media reduce sensation from their daily coverage.
"Our state of national security is not as bad as it is painted by the media," he quoted them as saying.
In seeking the support from the media towards the achievement of security for everyone, the heads of the agencies reportedly emphasised that sharing and coordination among security agencies and the media were essential to counter the ever-changing threats faced by the nation.
Shehu further said the security chiefs also expressed the view that the Nigerian media had a role to play in securing Nigeria's national interest.
This expected role of the press, he said, was in tandem with global best practices, particularly on issues that had bearing on national security.
He said the security chiefs, therefore, invited the media "as partners to continue to be security conscious and exercise restraint in disseminating information that could expose the services to ridicule or harm our national security.
"Prior consultation with appropriate members of the Intelligence Community is the best way to go."
Shehu said the NIA boss recalled what he described as unsavoury developments of the last one year, which had put the agency in a negative limelight.
He said the security chief however said that such developments were not peculiar to the agency.

Don't accept PDP's apology' -Bola Tinubu tell Nigerians

Bola Tinubu asked Nigerians not to accept the apology, because it was like a case of a thief who is only begging because he was caught in the act

By Eje peter

Reacting to the apology issued by PDP National chairman, Uche Secondus at a Nation Building event organized by the party, the National leader of the All Progressives Congress APC, Bola Tinubu, has asked Nigerians not to accept it because it was like a case of a thief who is only begging because he was caught in the act.
Speaking at the colloquium organized to mark his 66th birthday, which had in attendance President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and many others, Bola Tinubu said;
'Dear Nigerians, do not take their apology. They lied. They falsified. They even changed figures. For 16 years, they made fake promises and gave us fake figures. And they said we should not talk about it. It is like saying after all they did wrong, do not look at me. Just steal your own. That we will not take it off the table…no matter how twisting the mind of PDP and their supporters may be, we will continue to talk about it because you wasted our resources. You did not do what you promised Nigerians, what you said you would do when you were in office. The market gave you the maximum and production was also at maximum.
President Buhari has changed the economy from the wrong direction to steer the ship back before the final crash because it was necessary. We have started the journey. And the voyage is on the voyage of hope and the voyage that we are reclaiming Nigeria. We are retooling Nigeria. We are reinventing Nigeria. We are redirecting Nigeria.'
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who also spoke at the colloquium organized to mark the 66th birthday of the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, said that those who stole from Nigeria while they were in power, must be made to account for their actions.
"Let me say that when we began this journey in 2014, and when I say 'this journey' I refer to our government, our party, the APC, was determined to change the dominant narrative about our country. We were determined to ensure that the notion of a country rich in all natural resources, but even richer in human capital, but being destroyed daily by grand corruption, and the impunity in the looting of public resources; we had to change that narrative.
"As for our fight against corruption, we realized, as Mr. President said, that if we don't kill corruption, corruption will kill us. Corruption is an existential problem for Nigeria. Let me pause here to reiterate that from all I have seen in government in the past three years, the corruption of the previous five years is what destroyed the Nigerian economy.
"And the reason why we will talk about it is, first, we must let our people know that we cannot afford to go this way again. And this is the point we are making, that there is no country in the world, and we must know this; there is no country in the world that would allow its resources to be plundered in the way our own resources were plundered and expect to be economically viable; it is not possible. Nigeria is unlike any other country because of the level of corruption that was perpetrated. We must stop that corruption and that is why we are so committed.
"When you fight corruption the way we are fighting it, corruption is going to fight back. But we are determined. When you listen to the stories of these young people, when you listen to the stories of the vulnerable, the disabled, and all of these people, these are the people for whom we are responsible; these are the people who voted for us. We must ensure that we defend their rights, it is in the defence of the rights of these people that we will put everything out to make sure that those who have been taking the resources of this country are made to pay for it."  he said
Meanwhile here are photos from the Banquet the Lagos state government organized in honor of President Buhari, an event that was attended by governors, APC chieftains and many others.

Davido: We lied to EKO Hotel about number of people coming for 30 Billion Concert

By Eje peter
Davido, afropop star, says the turnout for his 30 Billion Concert was incredible such that the organisers had to mislead the venue owners about the expected number of people.
The concert took place in December 2017 at the EKO Hotel & Suites, Lagos.
The venue was packed beyond capacity and several Nigerian entertainers, including Wizkid, D'banj and 2baba Idibia, performed at the concert.
In an interview with HipTV, Davido said: "That day was a crazy day for me. I remember waking up and we were looking at ticket sales like how are we going to tell EKO Hotel all these people are coming.
"We had to lie to them about the amount of people that bought tickets because the limit of EKO Hotel was like 6,000 and we had over 10,000 people there."
The 'FIA' singer further said the concert was almost called off over the death of his friends.
In October 2017, the 25-year-old singer was accused of being complicit in the deaths of his friends, Tagbo Umeike and DJ Olu.
The incidents threatened to put a damper on his concert, but it proceeded as scheduled.
"This is a concert that we almost called off when I lost my friends," he said.
"We almost called off the concert because we didn't think we had the strength or even a good public perception of us at that time. So I was just like 'I think we should just call it off'.
Davido says the next 30 Billion Concert will be bigger and will have more artistes performing. The singer also said his album will be released in 2018.

2019: You cannot install APGA governor – Okorocha dares Archbishop Obinna

By Eje peter

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has told the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Rev. Anthony J.V Obinna, that he should perish the plan of installing a governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in 2019, in the state.
He said the cleric tried same but failed in 2015.
The Governor said the Catholic prelate had continued his onslaught against his government using his Easter message as a guise.
This was part of a statement made available to reporters in Owerri, the Imo State capital by the governor's media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo.
The Governor said, "We have read the latest accusation by Archbishop Anthony Obinna of the Catholic Diocese of Owerri against Governor Okorocha, and we shall continue to show our respect for the archbishop, but, one fact remains sacrosanct, he cannot install a governor of APGA extraction in 2019, because he could not do that in 2015 when he first tried it.
"The archbishop had hidden under his Easter message to continue his onslaught on the governor and his Rescue Mission Government, making it the tenth time in less than two months he had descended on the governor and the administration.
"Of all the allegations the archbishop made against the governor, the most unfortunate was the one he said Governor Okorocha is the only voice which everyone has to listen to and obey, otherwise, arrests and imprisonments would follow. That was the height of blackmail.
"And we humbly wish to challenge the archbishop to mention just one person the governor or government arrested for any reason, including criticising him or anybody, since he came on board as governor in 2011.
"Where the archbishop fails to do this, we ask with every sense of politeness, that he corrects that false claim, and, if he deems it worth-doing, apologise to the governor.
"The overwhelming love of Imo people for the governor means more to us than the weak voice of the opposition in the state made up of few politicians.
"And the archbishop should know that most people have become fed up with his repeated unprovoked and unwarranted attacks on the governor and his government, using every platform and every event available to him.

Buhari Presidency clears the air on 'Martin Luther King award' given Buhari

By Eje peter

—THE Presidency has said the award given to President Muhammadu Buhari by the family of Martin Luther King, late American human rights activist, is a "commemorative plaque". President Muhammadu Buhari receives a plague from Ambassador Erika Bennett and other members of African-American Human Activist Late Martin Luther Jnr during the conferment of The First Black History Month National Black Excellence and Exceptional African Leadership Award 2018 at the Council Chambers in Abuja.   Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, said the award was not given on behalf of The King Center. On Tuesday, pictures of the president being presented the award surfaced on social media. The award was given to him by Naomi Barbara King, a matriarch of the King family. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP scoffed at the award, describing it as a national disgrace and embarrassment. Reacting, Dabiri-Erewa, yesterday said the award was given by Naomi in a  personal capacity and not on behalf of The King Centre. Speaking through a statement by Abdulrahman Balogun, her spokesman, Dabiri-Erewa said Naomi gave the plaque to Buhari in recognition of his fight against corruption, saying "The members, led by the matriarch of MLK, Naomi Barbara King, were in Nigeria as part of the activities initiated to celebrate a low- key Black History Month in Nigeria as part of deepening partnership between Africa and its Diaspora. "As part of the activities, they visited President Muhammadu Buhari and gave him a commemorative plaque for his fight against corruption.

Yakubu Danjuma, the General who should not Throw stones

By Adoga Michael Oyi

General T Y Danjuma a once Chief of the Nigerian Army and one time Nigeria’s Minister of Defense had on Saturday, March 24, 2018 during the convocation ceremony of the Taraba State University accused the Nigerian Military of being far from neutral in the recent killings happening in certain parts of the North. The retired General also opined that the Armed Forces, were in the habit of covering those behind the attacks.
He also insinuated that that the citizenry will be deceived as to believe the Armed Forces are there to serve them, his final submission was as queer as all that he had to say — The people he advised, should consider defending themselves, otherwise, they will die, “one by one”!
These are damming things to say, not only by an elder statesman, but also judging from his position as a former Chief of Army Staff.
Undoubtedly our Dear country, Nigeria, is going through a score of security challenges in which many human lives have been lost to both armed bandits and communal clashes…. Such heightened clashes and banditry, have claimed scores of lives this year alone.
As such the situation for concern does exist. And perhaps the matter of incessant and seemingly segregated attacks on the Northern minorities must be seen as beyond happenstances, to warrant such a strong reaction from such an important figure as retired General Danjuma is.
These indictments are generally about PRESIDENT BUHARI’s APPROACH TO OUR SECURITY CHALLENGES…GOOD or BAD, General Danjuma is free to believe what he has by his own Free Will chosen to believe in, based on his convictions, let me also be permitted to take a stance based on my conviction too.
Between the year 2012 and 2015, the Boko Haram insurgency and terror engulfed no less than nine states of the North ,and the then President Goodluck Jonathan was even accused of being the creator of Terror among other things…
Our security forces were so overwhelmed that even Abuja the seat of power was attacked a few times by the terrorists…
All of these were damning for the then President and the Nation’s Armed Forces too were accused of even aiding the Terrorists, simply because the people were greatly traumatized.
It was a new kind of war that fighting Terror is, not a conventional war against a standard army. Terrorists are civilians who mingle unsuspectingly with the people and remain largely undetected.
The situation needed a new kind of approach and perhaps a New Government that the people would have the confidence in that they will be by it, be protected.
And on this basis, was President Buhari, elected.
Also based on this conviction has Nigerians in the three years down the line of Buhari’s rule, been collectively satisfied that this administration has greatly reduced the Boko Haram Terror to bare Nothingness…!
Churches and Mosques that used to be bombed every Sunday and Friday from Maiduguri to Jos have become a distant history…. Months have gone on without a single terror incident occurring. Even the advanced countries are not free of Terror.
No doubt President Buhari has done exceedingly well on the war against Terror.
The Nigerian Army, since the advent of General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has also by same extension done exceedingly well to upturn the battered image of the Nigerian Army that suffered greatly due to the general loss of confidence in it during the time of President Jonathan, and this fact cannot be too overstretched either.
I won’t let any one make me believe for once that Nigeria is not by far, better off now, with all the efforts put in by both the President and the Army to combat not only the Boko Haram terror but also the greater challenges of banditry, communal clashes, foreign incursions and other criminalities that have sprung up in the two to three years since this government came on board.
That people like General T Y Danjuma believe this administration has not done enough or the army is not neutral, is based on the resurgence of some isolated attacks by Boko Haram or the various bandits, foreign elements, militias disguising as herdsmen as we are all made to believe.
And with all the monies stolen, running into billions of dollars, meant for procurement of military equipment by the last administration, Nigerians should rather be thankful to this very committed Armed Forces that have continued to fight all our numerous security challenges with inadequate funds and Equipments..
General Danjuma and others should be insisting on proper funding of the Army and the Armed Forces to be able to effectively tackle all our very pressing and serious security issues.
To those who believe that the President is in support of a particular group killing another, or the Military is partisan, let it be known that it will simply not be possible in a Country like Nigeria, let alone an agenda of a President to be adopted by an independent and professional institution like the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Nigerian Army will not sanction the killing of innocent Nigerians under any guise, it is Simply not Possible.
And if the truth must be said, the Army has lost many of its gallant soldiers to these bandits and the army has killed and arrested many more of the so called Fulani Herdsmen — Wherefore has the very idea of the army aiding and abetting the criminals come to be in the mind of General Danjuma…!?
If anything, this President and the Nigerian Armed Forces, have shown the political will to fight insecurity in this country than what the last administration ever did….. Nigerians must never forget where we are coming from. Nigerians must never forget we are fighting a different kind of War.
Our soldiers are now well motivated than ever, they are getting required support as at when needed, army headquarters relocated to Maiduguri where it is most needed, gone are the days when all our army generals will sit tight in Abuja in the comfort of their luxurious apartments and receive situation reports on the phone or by signals only.
The Inspector General of Police was directed to relocate to Benue state because the President wanted an immediate end to the carnage being perpetuated there. Recently, the American President signed off on a deal to sell twelve super Tucano fighter jets to Nigeria, eight Mi-35M attack helicopters from Russia, five Super Mushshak aircraft from Pakistan, Yabhon Flash 20 Remote Piloted aircraft from the UAE all because this government is serious about fighting insecurity.
Not forgetting that President Muhammadu Buhari released an helicopter from the Presidential fleet to our troops for added support on this fight against all forms of insecurity, because he believes securing Nigeria and Nigerians should come before his own comfort.
What we are used to seeing in the recent past is the National Security Adviser, dispensing dollars to politicians, instead of fortifying our arsenal.
While we all sympathize with the people of Benue, Taraba and victims of Terror and Banditry in other states, we should not be so carried away as to stir up inter-tribal wars of attrition that are capable of aggravating the situation.
Our soldiers should be rather well motivated with encouraging words; the war they are fighting is not a conventional war that they are used to…. They should also be praised for restraint in the face of tensed situations that have not led to indiscriminate military actions like we had in Odi some years back.
Western leaders who used to tag us as a fantastically corrupt country will tell us now now that Buhari’s administration is one with sincerity of purpose.
Our expectations might be high, which is natural, but one never knows how hard it is to fight in an unconventional war, from the comforts of their palaces.. until one has experienced it, a conventional war defies strict military training solutions!
General Danjuma never foght in an unconventional war, so he may not know how hard and mentally tasking it is— just like a football game, spectators are the ones who knows how best to play.
His Wakeup call might be good, but his accusation of non-neutrality is Not.
His lamentation on the state of insecurity might also be needful, but not his assertiveness to people to pick up arms, that is a call to anarchy.
Condemning is natural for us humans. PATIENCE IS KEY so that we don’t escalate our insecurity issues to a full scale tribal war
In this regard it is better to state empirically the facts as it is so that Nigerians can best be served and the fears of General Danjuma, addressed.
The military has in place, “Exercise Cat Race”, an operation that engages troops to curb the menace of the herdsmen-farmers conflict and other criminal activities in the North Central Region amongst others.
And while living up to its task of safeguarding the nation, some of the officers and personnel of our armed forces, have paid the supreme price in the battle against criminality.
For instance, a gallant non-commission officer of the Nigerian Army was beheaded on 16 March 2018 in Takum Taraba State by these same criminal that General Danjuma has claimed the Armed forces are aiding and abetting.
And there are other officers too that daily are in danger
It is therefore highly uncalled for, an invitation to anarchy that ordinary people should take up arms to defend themselves… By this, indiscriminate use of arms is certainly not a call to make, as it will lead to the breakdown of law and order in the country.
It should be disregarded by all well-meaning Nigerians.
The Nigerian Armed Forces has over the years earned international accolades for the sheer professionalism and patriotism in all its engagements, and this situation too will pass. Tensions are high, but higher is the stakes that can lead to anarchy.
A well organised and highly professional Armed Forces, motivated and appreciated will do us all, far more good than to accuse our Armed Forces, which comprises of all the tribes of complicity in discharging its constitutional mandate.
This situation in a democracy allows for expression and freedom of speech. But it should not be taken to the level of loose and gaseous expressions that are without proofs.
If our respected General has any evidence of wrongdoing or of dereliction of duty against our Armed Forces he should please bring them forward rather than to be making blanket and generalized statements that can throw the entire polity into a flaming discord.
It is also important to state that the frustration in the situation might be evident and embedded in the painful outburst of General Danjuma.
We need to all do more as Nigerians.
Once upon a time, General Babangida cried out that “Nigerian economy had defied all known solutions”.
At another time, the same General Danjuma had to throw in the towel as minister of Defence in President Obasanjo’s administration, when the usual Nigeria problems of selfishness, self interest, over national interests, were the order of the day.
Just recently President Jonathan said, Boko Haram had penetrated into his government, into his cabinet and traced their presence also, to the Legislative and Judicial arms of government… These are issues that this present administration have also inherited.
To date, known and unknown financiers of BH remain unmasked and elusive. The army under the leadership of General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has managed to catch some notable backers and financiers of Boko Haram and I am sure in the no distant future, the backers of the herdsmen criminalities in the North Central zone will also be fished out by our Hardworking military leaders.
In truth, our gallant soldiers deserve every support and encouragement we could muster, we need from them, accountability and transparency in respect to human and material resources vis a vis the economy of the cost and opportunity cost implications of the unresolved crisis.
But us Nigerians too, should do more to help alleviate the problems of poverty, destitution and insecurity in the affected areas.
The major cause of insurgency is frustration and poverty. Our politicians too should do so much more.
The wake up call is for all of us to be alert to our responsibilities. We are the government, not just President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet. They are only the beneficiaries of our freely given mandates that must be supported.
God bless our Dear Country. Amen.
Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi, the President of National Committee of Yoruba Youth (NCYY)

Gov. Bello speaks on death of Kogi Reps member, Buba Jibril

By Adoga Michael Oyi

The Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has expressed “deep shock” over the demise of a member of the House of Representatives from the state, Hon. Buba Umar Jibril.
He described the late Jibril is a man who “lived in the hearts of his people”, saying the vacuum he left in the state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be difficult to fill.
Bello said: “The late former Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker and a Principal Officer of the House of Representatives was a man of the people.
“His life is a book for anyone aspiring for greatness to read. The late Buba identified with his people and lived a life of serving the poor in his constituency.
“A successful politician, the late Rt Hon. Buba Jibril was a lesson in positivism; a man who chose to take his destiny in his hand on several occasions.
“He will be remembered for his astuteness and purposeful leadership as well as his philanthropic life and service to humanity.
“New generation of Kogites and Nigerians at large will have a lot to learn from the life of the great patriot.”

FirstBank apologises for Buhari’s Lagos visit tweets

By Adoga Michael Oyi

First Bank of Nigeria has apologised
to its Twitter followers after the bank posted series of tweets that appeared to be mocking Thursday’s visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos.
The president’s two-day official visit to the state disrupted traffic and caused residents to embark on long walk to their destinations.
“Lagosians how far…. How was the trek this morning? The people still trekking, how’s the #WalkOfChange going,” the bank tweeted around 11:18 am on Thursday from its Twitter handle @FirstBankngr.
When a Twitter user (@Jenn_nikolas) tweeted at the bank that its tweet was “terrible to look at”, the bank offered a sarcastic response, “Don’t look. Keep trekking”.
Another Twitter user (@omookwah) told FirstBank, “This is an epic fail in attempt to ‘hijack’ an issue. You lost the ‘emotional’ drift to this and got caught on the wrong side of story. Always remember…. Market share and mind share.”
“Story,” the bank responded.
FirstBank later pulled back after its tweets attracted barrage of criticisms.
“Dear Twitter Family. A tweet from us earlier in the day was totally inappropriate. As a responsible organization, we do not support or share humor taken too far. And that is what this was; humor taken too far. We take it back and apologize unreservedly,” the bank tweeted around 2:14 pm.

Major routes leading to Muritala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos, were blocked in the morning for the president’s visit.
The action caused travellers to walk about two kilometres to get to the airport so as not to miss their flight.

Nigerians can shut down Buhari’s government – Bakare warns

By Adoga Michael Oyi

Tunde Bakare, serving overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, LRA, has warned the President Muhammadu Buhari administration about what Nigerians can do.
He warned that Nigerians can shut down the government as a result of herdsmen killings, conspiracy and mismanagement by the present administration.
Bakare stated this at an event organised by Enough is Enough, a coalition of youth advocacy groups.
He said the order by the Inspector-General of Police for vigilante groups and weapon-bearing individuals to surrender “illegal firearm” should apply to all including the herdsmen.
The fiery preacher said, “This is why I said this government is compromised completely. If you are making such a rule, let it be a statute of general application, let it apply to all.
“Nigerians need to wake up, shine their eyes and put their own destinies into their hands. They should fight for themselves.
“There are several ways to do it. Civil unrest is one of them, protest is another. We (Nigerians) can shut this government down.
“We have the numbers and we will show them that we have done it before and we will do it again.”
Bakare also accused the Buhari administration of mismanaging fuel subsidy, saying it refused to deregulate the downstream sector of the oil industry at the expense of Nigerians.
He said, “Show me in the world, any civilised society or any nation that is developed where government does business.
“Government job is to create enabling environment for business to thrive and flourish. Government job is to set policy.
“In Nigeria, the sleaze they get from it (subsidy) is why they are not letting go. There is only one word for either this government or any government, Buhari inclusive: let him that stole steal no more.”

Dapchi girls: CAN praises Leah for standing for her faith

By Adoga Michael Oyi

… Boko Haram trying to set us against each other, Ahmadiyya
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has praised the lone Dapchi girl Leah Sharibu, being held captive by Boko Haram for standing for her faith.
CAN says that people saying that Leah should have denounced Christ and repented later do not understand the tenets of Christianity.
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) CAN President, Rev. Dr. Jonah Samson explained that Christianity is all about conviction and not denial.
Speaking at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Northern Region, 6th Northern Region Jalsa Tarbiya, 3rd national peace symposium that was held in Abuja. Samson who was represented by Rev. Dr. Samuel Kajeyale said,
“In the aspect of people saying that Leah should have denounced her faith, it is not possible. If you know what Christian beliefs is all about, it is all about conviction and denial is not part of the tenets of Christianity, if you have given your life to Jesus and made him the lord of your life, people might want to say Peter denied Christ but look at the context of Peter’s denial, immediately he denied Christ he asked for forgiveness, we should ve very careful of looking at a portion of the bible and not looking at it holistically, if you are not given the opportunity of repentance and after the denying Christ you are killed, what becomes of you? That is the issue.
“So that girl as far as we are concerned, we are praying for her because of her conviction. When you look at the nation holistically, we have the freedom to practice our religion, religion should be by persuasion not imposition, if we allow religion to graduate to imposition, what we are going to reap in the society is total chaos.”
Amir sahib (National Head), Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Nigeria. Dr. Mashhud Fashola at the occasion called on Nigerians to beware of Boko Harams attempts to set Christians against Muslims.
Fashola said that the sect is exploiting religion for the purpose of conflict.
His words, “This is trying to make us as a nation set ourselves against eachother, we may not know thise causing problems, we may call them a particular name and they may not be the ones causing the problems, so what we need is dialogue
“In religion their is bad leadership, when religious leaders are not preaching discipline, morality and selflessness, they are alao looking for money, they are materialistic it will cause problems. Some of our leaders too are looking for their own pockets rather than fighting for the development of the nation and eradication of poverty. Leave religion apart, poverty knows no religion, if you dont address poverty, you cause problems in the nation, extremists will play on those deprived and preach wrong ideologies.
“As for Boko Haram, the government is not Boko Haram if Boko Haram sizes someone and refuse to return the person, it is not the fault of the government, let us put the blame on Boko Haram, Boko Haram is trying to create conflict, wants to set us against eachother and exploiting religion for that purpose, their take is not on religion, they know that when they create religious crisis, their will be crisis in the country, we should be very careful not to make them cause us to fight eachother. For me, what Boko Haram is doing is to cause disunity and instability in the country.”

Apology to Nigerians: Stop playing God, PDP replies Tinubu

By Eje peter

The Peoples Democratic Party has cautioned the All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to stop playing God, saying Nigerians have the faculty and freedom to determine the leadership that best suit their desires without anybody's control.
The party also advised Tinubu not to allow himself to be used a second time as he still bears a gross part of the blame for the enthronement of "this incompetent, divisive, nepotic and inherently corrupt administration of President Muhammadu Buhari," which it alleged has brought the nation to its knees in three years.
PDP National Publicity Secretary,  Mr.Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, said Tinubu's speech, at his colloquium, rather than being a damage of the PDP, ended up amplifying an admittance of the failure of President Buhari and the APC administration.
Ologbondiyan said without listening to the prompting of any politician, Nigerians across the board have taken the liberty to accept PDP's apology which was made patriotically in the overall interest of national healing, reconciliation, unity and cohesion.
He said, "The PDP watched with amusement as Asiwaju Tinubu struggled with words to appease President Buhari and give him assurances that he can win a second term election in the face of mass failure both in governance and in their discredited, rejected and troubled platform.
"It was a direct admittance of failure and indictment on President Buhari's administration, when Asiwaju pointedly told the President that the ship of the nation, under his (Buhari's) watch, still needs to be rescued, almost three years down the line.
"It is tragic that Asiwaju had to tutor his visitor, who had no policy direction since his election in 2015, by engaging in a revision of the programmes and policies of the PDP, such as the leasing system, the mortgage and pension schemes which boosted the economy and directly impacted on the lives of Nigerians.
"More pathetic is the fact that the APC leader presented the PDP programmes as if he was introducing novel ideas in the economy. This clearly stood with our position that the APC government is incompetent and lacking in ideas of how to move the nation forward.
"While we congratulate the Lagos Governor Emeritus on his birthday, the PDP considers it needful, to forewarn him to study the current ambience of Nigerian politics as it relates to the failures of the Buhari Presidency and the fact that the citizens have since rejected this Presidency and the APC, so that Asiwaju will not find himself swimming against the tide."

Herdsmen kill 6 in Kaduna, as troops nab 3 terrorists in Borno

By Adoga Michael Oyi

Kaduna— Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen reportedly killed six people in Bakin Kogi, Kaninkon chiefdom in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State yesterday morning, just as troops nabbed three Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
Auta Maurice, a member of the security committee in Bakin Kogi, said the people were killed in separate attacks between 10a.m. and 11a.m., yesterday. He added that the gunmen, numbering about 10, wore Army and Police uniforms.
Maurice said three people were killed in the bush when they went to cut wood for the roofing of their houses, while the three others were killed at a local mining site, adding that four people, who sustained injuries, were taken to the hospital in Kafanchan.

His words: “The attacks occurred in the bush. The first attack occurred at about 10a.m. when some members of our community went to the bush to cut wood for roofing their houses.
“All of a sudden, the herdsmen opened fire at them and three people were killed while others managed to escape. The second attack happened at about 11a.m. at a local mining site. Three people were also killed there, while four others were injured.
“The herdsmen were dressed in army camouflage and mobile police uniforms.”
Maurice said the distance between the village and the place where the other attack took place is about five kilometres.
“We reported the case to the soldiers maintaining security in our community and we went to the bush with them, but the bandits had fled by the time they reached there,” he said.
However, the police could not confirm the incident as Aliyu Mukhtar, spokesman of the Kaduna state police command could neither responded to calls nor reply a text message sent to his telephone.

In Borno
On the arrest of terrorists in Borno, troops engaging in internal security in the North-East, Wednesday, arrested three members of Boko Haram terrorist group.
The terrorists, who were nabbed at Ngurore area of the state by the troops of 23 Brigade, Nigerian Army under Operation Dole, according to a statement, by the Nigerian Army through its spokesman, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, followed information by concerned citizens about the presence of the terrorists in the area.

“ We commend patriotic members of Civilian vigilante (Civilian JTF) for their resilience and continued cooperation with troops, and urge members of the public to emulate their vigilance and security consciousness by reporting any suspicious persons or objects to the nearest military location.
“We wish to remind repentant Boko Haram fighters that the window of opportunity to embrace the Federal Government Amnesty program is still open to them to surrender and lay down their weapons.
“It is also gratifying to report that the troops’ morale remains high as they dominate the general area with a robust fighting patrol in continuation with the clearance operations.“
